Train from Leonardo da Vinci to Florence?

Is there a train (fast?) from the Leonardo da Vinci airport to Florence? Is it easy to take--older, solo traveller? Cost? How long a trip?
As far as I know, you have to take the shuttle train to Termini, and from there transfer to a Florence-bound train.

No there is no train from Fiumicino Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) to Florence. You need to take first the Leonardo Express which connects the airport to Termini Central Station (tickets can be purchased right in front of the platform. about 10 euros per person). It takes about 30 minutes to reach the station. Trains depart at every 37 and 07 of every hour.
From Termini there are Eurostar trains at every hour (i.e. 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 etc), which take about 1.30hrs to reach Florence. Price about 30 euros per person, seat reservation compulsory and included in the price of the ticket. I advise you to get the Eurostar instead of the Intercity because they dont stop in between and they are more reliable.

My wife and I made the trip between Leonardo da Vinci Airport and Florence on the Eurostar in 2000. I don't know if things have changed, but reserved seats weren't automatic then. They required an additional payment which I passed on. The train was almost full, and my wife and I ended up in different parts of the car. I managed to find a seat only after one of the other passengers--grugdingly--moved her packages. But it's a lovely trip wherever you sit.

Impossible that you made the whole trip from the airport to Florence without changing train! I have traveled on this line dozens of times. The Leonardoo Express is a special shuttle train which connects ONLY from the airport to the station (the line ENDS at the airport, no possibility to continue far north towards Florence). The kind of train is the somewhat similar as the eurostar (almost same colours) but it has only the 1st class with blue seats, whereas the real eurostar which connects Rome to Florence (and which actually continues up to Milan or to Venice according to the line and hour) has both first and second class (red seats for the 1st class and green gor the second). SOme years ago the reservation was compulsory on week ends and free on the other days, but as the trains doesnt accept standing travelers (for security reasons) and trains ended up being assaulted by people or people reserving seats and then not taking the train. So the italian railways have made the reservation always compulsory so now everybody has his/her own seat with no fights over who needs to take this or that seat.
Batuffolina, sorrry I didn't mean to say that we made the trip non-stop from LdVA. We took a local to Termini, then the Eurostar to Florence. And I'm glad to hear that reseravations are now standard. I'd had the same problem in '97 on a train from Brussels to Liege. Being a bargain hunter, I always decline the extra-cost options, occasionally to my discomfort. But it usually works out to the best.
