train fares again
hello, another question about train fares. mainly u-bahns, s-bahns, trams and buses...Am arriving in Frankfurt Main on this Wed or Thurs and will be staying in Hanau. May be there for a few weeks since wife is visiting grand-daughter. I will be going to Frankfurt most everyday. What is the best ticket that I can purchased to get around the city. I believe the best ticket I saw is called a city card or city pass for zone 50 which is Frankfurt. Think I can get it for 19eur for the week. (don't know if that's a 5 day week or 7 day week). Is that the best I can do or is there anything better. I need unlimited travel on all forms of city transportation system. Thank You

A pass for city travel in Frankfurt is not sufficient if you are staying in Hanau. You need a card that includes both Frankfurt (zone 50) and Hanau (zone 30) and everything in between. That makes a weekly ticket of category 5 for 49.80 € (single ticket is 7.80 €).

Thanks Quokka, did not know I could get that. Once again is that inter-changeable..I can use it for Buses, u-bahn and s-bahn. The way I like to get to know a city is by hopping on a train or bus and getting off every 5 or 6 stops, walking around and explore. Than get back on same or different vehicle and doing it again.

Yes it is. That's the concept of a Verkehrsverbund like the RMV: a regional public transport network where all carriers are united under one roof and the same ticket is valid on all of them. (Note that this does not include long-distance DB trains, only local/regional ones.) If you intend to travel more than just Frankfurt, a pass for the whole RMV network might be worth considering. The RMV extends as far as beyond Marburg in the north, to Mainz in the west, somewhere along Bergstraße in the south and Fulda in the east.
