I have just returned from a full day of work with no radio and TV contact and am shocked at the news that is streaming from the TV.

My most deepfelt condolences to each and every family that has lost someone in this tragedy and to all Spain as well. I grieve for you.

My heartfelt sympathy goes to the people of Madrid. I cannot imagine why terrorism goes on like this when people are maimed or killed.

I pray daily that bin Laden and Al Quada are caught and an end put to all of this.

I would like to echo the many sentiments of my fellow Fodorite friends--my deepest condolences to the good people of Spain. I was there exactly 2 months ago and it breaks my heart to hear this news. I would like to ask our Spanish Fodor friends to keep in touch and continue to update us on the events in Madrid. Of course we can watch the news, but I would really like to hear from you all as well. Your Fodor friends here in the US grieve with you.

Very disturbing to hear it was 911 days from 9/11.

My condolences and prayers go out to all affected by this despicable act of terrorism.

I have always loved Madrid. A trip to Spain is incomplete without it. And now my heart breaks to think of the cruel and cowardly acts perpetrated upon innocent people just trying to get to work in the morning. We grieve with the sorrowing families and pray that peace will overcome all the hate. Para todas las víctimas--Que en paz descansen. Mi más sincero pésame.

In the nightmare of the dark
All the dogs of Europe bark,
And the living nations wait,
Each sequestered in its hate;

Intellectual disgrace
Stares from every human face,
And the seas of pity lie
Locked and frozen in each eye,

Follow, poet, follow right
To the bottom of the night,
With your unconstraining voice
Still persuade us to rejoice;

In the desert of the heart
Let the healing fountain start,
In the prison of his days
Teach the free man how to praise.

WH Auden, In Memory of Yeats

I've done the math about a dozen times and I still come up with March 11, 2004 being 912 days after September 11, 2001.

Patrick: I haven't tried to work it out myself so I don't know.

All I know is that's what they are saying in every news bulletin on Sky News. I assume they must be sure it was 911 days before they would report it.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Psalms 23:4

Whether or not Al-Qaeda was involved, let us all keep in mind that God never, in any religion, condones murder. These terrorists are only that--murderers--and not representatives of the true Muslim faith.

May God comfort those suffering in Spain and around the world.

my deepest sympathy goes to the families. In Australia we are hearing that it was the work of Al Qaeda and over 160 people are dead, it's Bali again

Terrorism has placed bombs in Madrid that have blasted in our hearts.

Madrid a city of joy and life is going through a very sad moment with an increasing amount of death. 198 for the moment.

Madrid will always welcome visitors

Tks

I also would be priviliged to add my condolences to this fine thread of humanity.

The Spanish people do not deserve such horror.

May those who have passed rest in peace and those who survive live in peace.

with love and affection
