Train, bus or private tour from Venice to Ravenna

I'm new at this; bear with me please. My husband and I will be in Venice
4 days end of April. We would like to get to Ravenna quickly and easily for
a day trip. What is best way to do this? Prefer not changing trains.
Does Venice have two train stations for different routes? After Venice we plan to go to Riva del Garda by train. Do we have to change trains in Verona and if so, can we leave our bags in train station and do a quick look around Verona? Any suggestions for joining an academic type walking tour in Venice and Ravello would be great. Thanks.

There is one main Venice train station on the island and then another on Mestre. Ravenna is wonderful but it will be a long day trip - I think it is about 2 and a half hours by train from Venice - we did it as a two night stop over between Venice and Rome and I'm not sure any trains go direct. Maybe GOOGLE "Venice day trips Ravenna" to see if any company offers a bus trip - I can't remember seeing any offered but there may be one out there.

Venezia Santa Lucia is the station in the old city. Venezia Mestre is on the mainland. All trains from Venezia Santa Lucia stop at Venezia Mestre. Use www.bahn.de to check schedules.

You will have to change trains in Bologna. I don't see any trains from Venice that don't involve a change.

I agree with above that this would be a long/substantial day trip -- with train changes.
I loved Ravenna and love Venice -- am going back to Ravenna for a workshop this Sept -- but we stayed overnight there and I would recommend that if possible.

I just saw Smalti's trip report on a day tour out of Venice to Ravenna with Avventure Bellisime but the post was 2005. It's worth a try --

Here's Smalti's trip report:
