Tower of London and WM Abbey in 90-100 minutes

Last time we were in London, we followed janisj’s suggestion for early arrival at the Tower and immediate bee-line to the Crown Jewels. It was excellent advice! Our time in the Jewel room was not crowded and not hurried. We then joined a Beefeater’s tour.

No despair and angst -- just hoping to help you have a great trip.
Then if you want to take the Yeoman Warder tour, walk back near the entrance and hook up with the next one (or not - you are free to wander throughout the Tower complex on your own). The tours are free but do have some small change (£2 is plenty) to tip the Beefeater as the group leaves the chapel at the end of the tour.

Its pretty discreet -- the Yeoman Warder stands at the exit form the chapel that is where he (and now possibly she) will accept tips. They are retired NCO's and it is much appreciated.

My mother and I were at the Tower quite a while ago (2003!), and I know we tipped the Beefeater. Janis is probably the one who told me to do it!😁
Oops, just looked, Janis joined in 2005, so it was somebody else.

Maybe it was me, who knows?? I first heard it from a local back when I lived in England - we were talking about the Yank scourge of tipping everyone and their aunt and he said the only people he ever tipped were doormen who got him a cab and Yeoman Warders after a tour. I actually first posted on Fodors in 1999 long before registration, then for a few years had a different screen name but it got messed up some how (don't remember the details) so I re-registered as janisj (as in Joplin)
