We were considering staying at this hotel.
But, we have been told by a guide in Istanbul that this hotel has with too many touts just outside the hotel? Does anyone have advise on this?

I don't know why the guide singled out the Four Seasons. The entire old city is full of touts. The Four Seasons in Istanbul is one of the nicest places we've ever stayed at.

I am sure that the guide also offerd you a different hotel. Touts in Istanbul are everywhere, tell them before they even have a chance to speak is that you have already bought a carpet. Touts in Istanbul are not as bad as the ones in India or Egypt.

I don't subscribe to the view that all of Istanbul is full of touts.

However, the Sultanahmet area, where the Four Seasons along with the sights such as the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Topkapi Palace are located is indeed full of them and I got weary of them pretty soon. I also almost got ripped off by a taxi driver and was told that that was common practice on that side of town.

This is exactly the reason why I keep advocating to stay somewhere on the other side of the Golden Horn in the Beyoglu or Cihangir neighborhoods around Taksim Square, where some of the bigger chain hotels are located.
Whereas you will be a cab ride away from the above mentioned sights, this usually does not cost a fortune and you would spare yourself the permanent hassle of trying to escape those nervewrecking hagglers.

I really think the statement from the guide is laughable. If you're going to go to Istanbul, you'll see lots of touts. If they're not outside the hotel, they will be just down the street or outside any shop or restaurant you exit. So what is his brilliant plan to avoid them? Stay inside a car and never get out and experience Istanbul?
