I'll be topping a thread I wrote in April on the subject. I used Julia Tours, but the 3-4 companies offering day tours to Toledo are basically the same. Strongly advice the half-day one, use the afternoon at leisure and return to Madrid by train. Your kids might enjoy the Moor's Workshop, Puente de San Martin, and the Alcazar. Enjoy!

I just came back from a trip to the Andalucia region, Madrid, and Barcelona. I took a half-day tour to Toledo with Pullmantur. It was pretty interesting and good. I took a 5-day tour with them and found it to be great!

Pullmantur's office is near the Palcio Real, off Plaza Oriente. You do not have to book in advance. You can go there a day before the trip. I had my hotel arrange the trips for me.

just got back from spain and italy in may and would recommend taking the train to toledo. it is not expensive and the bus from the station to plaza zocodover is simple. toledo is a town to walk and explore for adults and kids. by going by yourselves you are not so regimented as far what you want to see. a suggestion, there is a little tram train in plaza zocodover that takes you on a 45 minute trip around the city outsides with great views. the kids will like it and it gives you and idea of the city. any other questions email me.
