Tours in Rome

We will be in Rome the last week in October and I am looking for a good tour with kids 10 and 12 of the Colosseum. The private tour I looked into was $75 an hour.

Hi Melanie,
You might want to try a guide I've used, who, I believe based on my experience, will charge less, but is very knowledgeable. He took an early retirement & had been a professor & really enjoys showing folks "his Rome". His name is Giancarlo Alu and you can reach him at his e-mail address [email protected] His English language skills are outstanding.

He can customize the tour for you, show you the Forum or other sights, and work within any time constraints you may have.

Buon Viaggio,
BC

Took an English speaking tour this June at 9:30 in the morning for 10 euros. I don't know what the hrs are in the Fall but you might check with your hotel. I've also heard of free tours given by college students but didn't see any when I was there.

Melanie,
In August we walked up to the colosseum in a state of awe. We were standing there talking and were approached by a women and asked if we wanted to join their English speaking tour. It was 15 euro a piece. 7 euro to get in and 8 euro for the tour. (or vis-versa). We joined in and bipassed the very long ticket line. The guide spoke very good English. There were 15 poeple in our group, so not to crowded. My self, my 12 year old daughter and my sister really enjoyed the information. We felt like we got a lot of information for a little price. Have a great time in Rome. My 12 year old is ready to go back. The Italians love children. Italy is a great place to travel with kids.

There have been other postings and similar questions re: tours of the Colosseum......we took the "Walks of Rome" tour that was being conducted in the Colosseum. They are several times a day, with an English-speaking guide, and are very reasonable. In no way should you pay $75 for a tour! Don't pre-book, there are always tours being given at reasonable prices that fascinate both the adult and 12 year old kid!
