Tours in Italy

We're planning a trip to Italy next summer, and would like to find a very good tour that spends alot of time in just a few places. We were thinking of Rome and the south coast, but suggestions of the best places to go, especially foodwise, would be appreciated!
Thanks

If you really want a tour, try BELLA ITALIA TOURS -----they have a web site at www.itlgroup.
com---not cheap but these guys have the best
itineraries I have seen and they add a historic
flair. If you want to try it yourself, that is what I do.

We did our own trip to Italy, as we didn't like the idea of being told where to go. Have you considered finding someone to book hotels and then exploring on your own? This gives you the security of having a room and not having to worry about that, but the freedom to create your own trip. Find a specialist on Italy, and see what they can do for you. Of course, you should know in advance what you want to see, as that will influence where you book hotels. If you decide to do it this way, make sure you have an excellent guide book, as it will be your only guide to the sights. Or you could decide to purchase a site guide actually at the site. This may only work for ancient sites, but worked for us in Greece. Have fun!

MY WIFE AND I ARE PLANNING 15 DAYS IN ITALY THE END OF MARCH 1998. A FEW DAYS IN FLORENCE, THEN A FEW (3)DAYS DRIVING AROUND TUSCANY SMALL TOWNS IN A RENTAL CAR. GET A TRAIN TO VENICE , SPEND 3DAYS AND 2 NIGHTS. TRY TO GET AN OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO NAPLES AND ON TO SORRENTO. SPEND 2 NIGHTS IN SORRENTO AND 2 NIGHTS IN POSITANO. THEN TO ROME FOR LAST 2 NIGHTS.

SUGGESTIONS FOR HOTELS OR PENSIONS???
WOULD LIKE TO LIMIT COST TO AROUND $125-150 PER NIGHT.....

To find hotels in your price range, check the web site www.fodors.com and click on the "trip planner" section where you'll be prompted for the city and price range of hotels. This is a start. Also, there's at least on Europe Hotel broker in the US
(800- Euhotel, I beleive).

LAURIE: If you are looking for a good tour, try Contiki (www.contiki.com). I went on an 18 day European tour with Contiki this past summer and it was GREAT! The cost was very low and the hotels, siteseeing, food, etc. was really good. Contiki runs tours for ages 18-35 only so everyone on the tour was around college-age. This made the tour really fun and was geared toward a younger crowd than the other tour companies. The tour manager and driver are also under 35, so they know the good clubs, etc. to go to. I was very pleased with the tour - had the time of my life! The also do regional tours and they have one to Italy that's around 15 days I think. Definitely check them out! Good luck!

I'd suggest calling Tracy Fontana at Quintessential Italy - 888/MYITALY (or email her at [email protected]).

Tracy is an expert in Italy as she lived there for many years and now puts together excellent tours which take you to places that many tourists don't generally see. Good luck and have fun!
