tour to great britain - help needed
Please Help - has anyone been on the London and country tour through globus, trafalgar, or insight??? I have done some research, but can not decide which tour will allow us to see everything we want to and not break the bank. Most of the tours going to london and country seem a little overpriced and they give you 2 1/2 days of down time which is free money for the tour operator. we also don't want to be rushed through sites and go to places where the tour operator gets a kickback from local shopkeepers, etc. This will be our first trip to England and there seem to be so many options out there. if someone has actually been on this or a similar tour with globus please let me know if it was worth it. Thanks a lot

I really think you should tackle London independently as opposed to in a tour. The city is so wonderfully diverse that working to your own agenda will mean you discover the magic for yourself. By all means, you can jump on a tour to go around the countryside but London is a city you walk around to find the things you love.

I can't imagine ANY group tour to London would be worth it. You can almost certainly do it cheaper on your own and see exactly what you want, when you want, for as long as you want, and stay where you want.
If you felt you HAD to take a tour to other parts of the country - then you can book short get aways from London. (but it is easy to get anywhere in the UK on your own)

I'm another booster of independent travel to London. But if I did choose a tour, I'd go for one that gave me a airfare, a good hotel, and the greatest amount of downtime. That way I could take advantage of the operator's volume discount on the big ticket items and design the rest of my journey to suit my tastes and needs. In more than 30 years of traveling, I've found that once in country I can get to desired attractions more cheaply on my own and I'm not at the mercy of some bus driver's idea of how long I should spend exploring a castle or enjoying a lunch.

Hello, In 2003, my sister and I(bpth 60ish) went on the Globus London seven-day package. It included airfare on British Airways, 6 nights at the Royal Horseguards(this was the highest priced option, but we really wanted the location)and it sounded nicer than some of the others), full English breakfast each morning, 1/2 day coach tour with a very informative guide, one-day tube pass, and ride on the London Eye. Don't remember the price, but it was reasonable for all we got.
Continued on our own to Ireland and Scotland after the London part of the trip.
