Took my friends passport by mistake and he's supposed to fly tomorrow, HELP

Well my friend had to spend 3 hours at the US embassy but got what he needed for 85 bucks. Ran home packed and headed to the airport, now unfortunately to add insult to injury AA canceled his flight. Oh boy the day from HELL
OY,AND THERE'S MORE............
NYC is expecting a big snow storm tomorrow so he's probably not gonna get out for a while.

I guess he was scheduled for the 4:35 PM flight. Couldn't they get him on the 6:30 PM flight, which has now already landed?
I'm curious. Did you fax him the copy, or was he able to get the temporary without a copy?
