Noch, if it bothers you so much, then just hang out at Slow Trav. That site is well monitored, and they keep their trip reports segregated from the more plebeian discussions. You might like it.

Looks like the OP is attacking Mrs and Mr Annhig. Who own the greatest travel/foodie trip report in Fodors history - Iceland and its Cucumbers.

Very unfair.

cold - I think that you have conflated the titles of 2 separate trip reports.

However, I am touched by your gallantry.

As for being attacked, my shoulders, as DH is always telling me, are broad. I, and they, can take it.

Oh -- I don't know

Your >>>Apart from vanity pieces there seems to be quite a bit of mutual glorification too.<<< . . . verges a tad towards bitchy . . .

Not sure how people explaining why they find Trs helpful qualifies as bitchy, yet remarks about vanity and self glorification are just innocent comments. Still it takes all sorts. Even the clinically joyless.

I like many trip reports and it's easy to skip those of little or no interest to me. I used to write them but discontinued because it really takes quite awhile and I have to do a lot of writing for work, so don't want to spend my leisure time writing and editing as well. I certainly appreciate the effort people put into them, whether the writing is "my style" or not.

"Apart from vanity pieces there seems to be quite a bit of mutual glorification too."

Judging from your contribution here, should you ever decide to write one, I'm pretty sure you won't have to worry about that one.

"Her writing on Senise peppers was of particular interest to me. As a foodie I am interested not only in the freshest of ingredients (as well as kilometer zero) but also in the various methods of conservation of foods for later consumption."

zzzzz

For those of you who enjoy reading trip reports then please feel free to read some of mine. They are of course examples of rampant and gratuitous vanity but I'm unashamedly OK with that.

As for Fodors, it was this forum that inspired me to start writing and sharing my travel journals. When I came here to to gather information from fellow travellers on a destination I had not visited before then I wanted to see everything but I understand your frustration nochblad.

Perhaps Fodors could introduce a filter that you could set to show/hide trip reports. But what if you miss that amazing saliva-inducing report on the gastronomy of Wallachia?

Retired in an apartment I enjoy posting and reading travel report. This has given us real tips about some destinations and also an opportunity to share our experience and equally to enjoy what others say. See no need to separate...as mentioned trip reports are flagged. So in travel I try to take enough notes and photos to remind me of the experience. And enjoy what others see.

Trip Report are tagged. Easy enough not to open them. No I do not see a problem.

Some of the best gems of information on special things to do or food to try or unique hotels come from TRs. Keep them right where they are.

Lots of fine details in these, read those of interest and skip the rest. We print out those for destinations to where we're headed, and highlight them in yellow, pink or green as to attractions, dining, tips, etc. Then create and dropbox my notes onto my phone by locale. I would say most are quite sincere with the goal to be merely helpful. It's free! We're retired! We have time!
