I understand that Toledo would be very difficult to navigate on foot for an athmatic...........Are taxis readily available?.........What about the "escalator"?..........We would like to spend a night in Toledo as we really want to see the Cathedral , Alcazar and the Casa of El Greco, but don't know if I will have access...........Also wondered about the Hostal del Cardenal and Hotel Santa Isabel?........thanks for any suggestions

At Plaza de Zocodover you can board the tourist train for a ride round Toledo. The easiest way to tour Toledo (without becoming lost) is to pay about $12 and catch the Zocotren in the Plaza. You buy your ticket at the nearby tourist bureau. The train, a string of open carriages pulled by a tiny motorised car on rubber tyres, leaves hourly from the Plaza. The driver gives a commentary in English. A bit like touring Enid Blyton's Toy Town, it's a great trip. The Zocotren, horn tooting, squeezes through narrow alleys as people jump out of its path.

Re your hotel. I had a look at Hotel Santa Isabel. Looks like it has a nice terrace. I couldn't find photos of bedrooms and bathrooms so that would make me a little apprehensive. Take a look at Hostal Santo Tome - http://www.hostalsantotome.com/

I found that Toledo, while very hilly, wasn't that hard to navigate if you take your time. You may take the tour car, which seemed fun, but my friend and I preferred to explore on our own. I'm not sure what "escalator" you speak of, but we took a bus at the train station, which takes you to Zocodover. I think it was a Euro for the ride.

the escalator just takes people up from a lower parking area .. yes, toledo is quite hilly, but of course, depending on the disability, there are plenty of resting places, cafes, and of course, taxis.

We were in Toledo last March and stayed at the Hostal del Cardenal. Could not believe the beauty of the grounds and building. The price was right and it was great for a 3 star. The hotel is built into the city wall and is right next to the escalator. The escalator is not on the side of Plaza de Zocodover, but its a nice walk over. The hostal is between the citywall gates on one side and the escalator on the other. If you walk thru the city wall gate, its a zig zag hill and the Zocodover is at the top. Its not a hard walk, I use a cane and it was fine for me. We went up both ways. Toledo is great!
