To bike buffs: Grindelwald-Grosse Scheidegg-Schwarzwaldalp-Rosenlaui and back

Hello,

In one of my days in Berner Oberland I am planning to do a bike trip from Grindelwald to Grosse Scheidegg/Schwarzwaldalp/Rosenlaui and back.
As I can judge by the web information the most energy/time-consuming leg of the trip
is from Grindelwald to Grosse Scheidegg as it is quite steep and long way. For me it is doable but am not sure of my wife. In this case I believe the best way is to go to Grosse Scheidegg on a post bus with our bikes hired in Grindelwald then hopping off and biking. I am also not aware of the Schwarzwaldalp-Rosenlaui leg regarding its steepness and length.
Can anyone help me with a detailed information on the entire rout, please (leg-to-leg distance, steepness etc.)? Thanks

There's an asphalt road connecting Gridelwald, Grosse Scheidegg and Rosenlaui. Their elevations are Rosenlaui (1328 m) - Grosse Scheidegg (1962 m) - Grindelwald (951 m).
The distance from Grindelwald to Rosenlaui is 20 km.

My husband is an avid biker and would love to do this route.

Good sites Sansman!

My husband knows the bike routes over the Pragel and Ibergeregg like the back of his hand.

Thank you very much for the links, I'll check them in a couple of minutes. Now I would like to ask Schuler: according to the Internet the busing and hiking from Grindelwald to Grosse Scheidegg takes up 40 min. and 3 hours respectively. A 20 km. undulating rout on a motor vehicle can be covered for less than 40 min.(Grindelwald - Rosenlaui). But the distance from Grindelwald to Grosse Scheidegg is less than 20 km. So, should the Internet info be wrong and this is not the case then the net biking time from Grindelwald to Rosenlaui might be 1 h. or so. Can you, please, clarify on this matter.
Thank you very much

As a follow-up, is any transportation of bicycles allowed on cable-cars. If not, is it feasible to do from Grindelwald a bike trip such as: First-Bachalpsee-Faulhorn-Grindelwald?

Thank you

Hi D:

I can only answer your questions by doing research on the net.

For a nice picture of the route you have chosen (and for anyone who wants to do a round trip of Brienz, Grindelwald, Grosse

cont.

Scheidegg, Aareschlucht, Meiringen and Grindelwald) here's a website showing the route, which can be done by a bus tour.
http://www.grindelwaldbus.ch/seiten/...0Scheidegg.htm

I also looked at the Grindelwald website and found that the tourism board offers a brochure with top bike routes in the area (yours included). Cost Sfr. 5.-- at tourist office.
See: http://www.grindelwald.com/summer-uk...amp;frameset=3

Please contact the Grindelwald tourist office directly with your questions if you can't find your answers on this board or Trip Advisor.

Hi, Schuler

Thank you for the link, very interesting info at http://www.grindelwald.com/summer-uk...amp;frameset=3
Actually I saw this site but don't know how come I had not come across the info about bike trips.
The links are really helpful but unfortunately I could have a look at these maps no sooner than I've found myself in the Grindelwald tourist office. What I have revealed using these links is that the one way distance from Grindelwald to Rosenlaui is about 20 km. with a Schwarzwalalp-Rosenlaui rout of around 2.8 km.
I think we could do well without any bus tour and make use of a post bus only once on the uphill from Grindelwald to Grosse Scheidegg to ensure the whole ride is relatively effortless to my wife (should she be not sure of her ability to do that). The back way is just sort of coasting.
I am wondering if it is possible to do a bike trip from G. to Kleine Scheidegg/Jungfrau/Wengernalp/Wengen/Mannlichen and back via Kleine Sch. to G.
If you have any info, please reply.
I will appreciate.

I've hiked from Wengen to Kl. Scheidegg and saw many bikers. You can bike up/down to Grindelwald on an paved road.

I can't give you more info. Hopefully someone else can.

I hiked Grindelwald-Grosse Scheidegg-Rosenlaui-Meiringen in a day and yes the Grindelwald-Grosse Scheidegg part is very steep but the roads, like Schuler says, are well paved. Less steep as elevations Schuler gives going down to Rosenlaui.

Point is, rather than backtracking you could continue down pass Reichenbach Falls to Meiringen, put your bikes on boats or trains to Interlaken and on trains back up to Grindelwald - i never liked backtracking anywhere.
