TIPPING PVT GUIDE

We have hired a pvt. guide for the day in Rome. I'm wondering if we should tip him. The guide charges $170.00 for the day.

I'd give him 10 Euro if he is an employee. If he is a private contracter, I'd give him nothing.

HE IS A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR. WE WILL PAY HIS ENTRANCE TO SITES WE VISIT AND SUPPLY
LUNCH. DO YOU THINK THE FEE OF 120 EURO IS REASONABLE? WE HAVE BEEN TO ROME
BEFORE, BUT I DO WANT AN IN DEPTH HISTORY LESSON. THOUGHTS, SUGGESTIONS?
THANKS BXL

Hi bx,

Your guide has set his rates at what he thinks is reasonable to provide you with a nice day and make a profit.

A tip is not necessary.

However, if he provides service above and beyond, 10% or so would be generous.

Welcome to Fodors. Please do not type in ALL CAPITALS. It is considered yelling and is very impolite.

120 euro for an entire day in Rome sounds quite inexpensive to me.

Can you share the name of the guide and how you found him or her?

Would you mind giving more information?

I cannot find him under that name with a search here. That price sounds really low!

Ron in Rome has been advertising on Fodor's by constantly linking his business website and somehow getting away with it. Personally, I would never use someone that doesn't want to follow the rules here. If the site becomes all advertisers, then it becomes of no use to anyone.

Commercial postings (including links by advertisers to business e-mails and commercial sites) aren't allowed here, and they will be removed.<<<

I have never seen him even on Fodors, though I know I myself have put a link to him on here as a good guide. His website is extremely helpful to anyone going to Rome too.

He's on Fodor's as a member and does self-promote, but also does provide straightforward information. You can check his posts here:
