Timing for Paris restaurant reservations?

I will be travelling to Paris Dec. 31st - Jan. 4th, and need some help with the timing of restaurant reservations. I assume for New Years Eve, it's probably a good idea to make a reservation soon. I have read on Fodors that they fill up quickly. I am planning to go to L'Angle du Faubourg. Any thoughts on that?

What about reservations for Jan. 1st - 4th. Will the concierge at my hotel think I'm crazy if I ask him to make reservations for those dates now?

Some restaurants, not the famous starred ones, or the very popular ones, will won't take reservations more than 30 days in advance. You can call your hotel and speak to the concierge, give him the names of your choices and ask him when would be the best time for him/them to make your reservations. Concierges at the better known hotels, can work wonders with places that are hard or impossble to book.

If you know when and where you want to go just send that list to the concierge and ask them to make the reservations for you. They can then decide when to do it. That is the way I have always done it when staying in a hotel.

I will be in Paris in early Feb. for a week. I am still adjusting my dining. I will finalize it and get it to my concierge by the first of the year.

Your concierge can make other arrangements for you, too. My concierge is making the arrangement for a date and private time for the Orangerie for me.

Enjoy...........

I would try to book straightaway. I haven't been in Paris NYE but in London & Edinburgh, restaurants can be fully booked 2 months or more in advance. If anything I'd suggest you've left it rather late.

I now know to my cost to book a place for Valentine's Day before Christmas !

Thanks everyone. Based on your recommendations, I email the concierge my requests, and he is working on them. I am confirmed for NYE at the restaurant, so I guess now is a good time to book. NYE seems expensive everywhere. We are paying 130 Euros per person.

lesm, that price is average. We paid less than 100 euro per person two years ago at a small restaurant on Ile St. Louis. Since then they have raised their prices. It's worth it though for that one night.
