Jen: "Since we're more interested in seeing local sights and learning about local culture than in hanging around a resort"

I NEVER "hang around a resort". But it is VERY nice to have a 3 bdrm, 2 or 3 bathroom w/ jacizzi tubs, "super deluxe" unit to return to after a long day of hiking or sightseeing for the price of my yearly maintenance fees. My time share was paid off years ago and I stay in it some times and trade for fabulous places other times.

Message: Jen: We, too are "more interested in seeing local sights and learning about local culture than in hanging around a resort". Like XXX we also like to relax after a hard day of sight-seeing. On our exchange to the Costa del Sol alone, we spent time in Gibraltar - feeding the Barbary Apes and taking in the fantastic view from the rock, as well as strolled around a charming town. On the same trip we visited Ronda, the white villages, Puerto Banus, Malaga and took a trip to Tangier, Morocco - a place I'm sure we NEVER would have visited had we not exchanged into that area. We definitely appreciated returning to our bouganvilla (sp?) covered 2 bedroom unit with private patio. Other benefits usually include a real refrigerator, and washer and drier - making it easier to pack light.

With planning, timeshare exchanges work out more economically than reserving two rooms at similar hotels/resorts(IMHO). On average, most of the "resorts" we've exchanged into run $250 to $300 per night per room. We are ahead of the game 1 to 2 nights in, depending on how many bedrooms are in the unit.

Most of my friends are not tied to timeshares. However, they also have not travelled as extensively as my two sons have been able to due to our timeshare trades. We NEVER could have afforded the vacations we have taken in the last 9 years without the exchanges.

Jim - Sorry we have all hi-jacked your post. If you heart isn't set on England or Wales, you may want to check out the Costa del Sol - Gibraltar reminded me of London, but with terrific weather.
