I'm flying out of IST on Sunday. I'm staying next to the Hagia Sophia. My flight departs at 13:55. If I'm taking a private taxi when can I comfortably depart to make my flight? I don't want to be stressed about getting there in time, but I also don't want to leave so early or spend loads of time at the airport. I'm flying business class on Turkish Airlines to Moldova for context. What time do you suggest I leave?

It’s been a few years but the taxi from the 4S Sultanahmet to the airport was less than 45 minutes and it may be quicker on a Sunday. Add that to how much time your airline recommends that you get to the airport.

We were surprised by the heavy security process at that airport and that was before the 2016 bombing. I would be sure to allow for plenty of time at the airport.

I agree you'llwant to get to the airport with a generous amount of time. If internationa; I'd want to be there by about 11AM and earlier wouldn't be out of the question

Err on the side of caution, but keep in mind the lounge at IST is reputed to be quite lovely so you'd not be stuck in a nasty gate area seat if you do have time to kill.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Just wanted to report back saying I left my Ayasofya adjacent hotel around 10:40. Even with a bag to check I was seated with food in the TA lounge by 11:50. So super quick and easy. And yes, the lounge here is pretty incredible so not mad about the extra time!
