Three Coins in the Fountain...A Return Trip To Roma
#101
hi LCI,
i have read somewhere, [RIRome I think] that they are currently "improving" Fiumicino. Hopefully they wil have finished by the time we go in February.
thanks for posting such an interesting and well-written report. I'm sure it will be useful.
regards, ann
PS - According to HV Morton, until about 150 years ago, everyone in the english-speaking world pronounced it "Room". How weird is that!

LowCountryIslander,
Your report was such fun to read and filled with great information. I have taken many notes from your report to add to my "must try" list for our trip next fall.
I loved your pictures. What is the model number of the Panasonic that you used? Such beautiful pictures!!

Hi Marcy,
Thanks for your offer to e-mail me your Rome Restaurant list - I'm especially interested in the area around the Trevi fountain as that is where our Sleep in Italy apartment is. I'm not sure if I want to post my e-mail on here though - is that the only way?
Thanks again for your awesome trip report - loved it!!!!

Marcy, thanks again for the terrific report and photos. I'm now wondering when I can next get to Rome...not soon, I don't think.
I have a Panasonic FZ5 from about 5 years ago. It's kinda gotten pretty horrid (can't all be the photographer, can it???) but someone recently mentioned that perhaps before upgrading I should try having it professionally cleaned. Your pics look so great I sort of just want to get a new camera.

I have just started reading your report -- only got through the opening posts before I HAD to write.
So glad the Boccaccio apartment worked out so well. I just got a notice from Rome Capital Apartments that they have a Nov-Dec discount on that apartment. Also December and January discounts for our beloved Apartment Miguel:
http://www.romecapitalapartments.com...gli/Miguel-157
I have just sent off a message asking about renting Miguel in early March 2010. Unfortunately, they have only a stretch of 6 nights available (as per online calendar). It bugs me to pay the daily when we really want a week, which is much cheaper... OTOH, we DO like that apartment...
Thinking we might combine this with some time in Calabria or Sicily. Very early in the season but we prefer off-season travel.
Meanwhile, we arrive by car in Savannah just before NYE, for our usual month at Suites on Lafayette. I've already started researching January oyster roasts -- we went to a terrific church-run one near Beaufort last year, a highlight of our trip.
I MUST do my trip report from Burgundy + Provence (October 6-20, 2009). Lots of photos to upload but I seem to have misplaced my travel notes.
Hoping to see you in GA/ SC....

Ted...
Would love to see you when you are in Savannah. I will keep my eyes open for any interesting oyster roasts for you.
Sicily sounds wonderful, it's high up on my "to go" list!

Reading both your reports, which are excellent for information and easy to read.
We were in Rome the same time you were in this report and agree about the weather. We were also there this past (2010) October, same dates, and it was quite a bit colder with a couple of heavy rain days.
We are going again in 2 months and your restaurant list will go with me. I need to try Tonino's, Osteria Pegno, LaPigna and Monte Carlo.
Thanks.

Thanks for reading my report. I was surprised to see it rise to the top after all this time!
On my most recent trip to Rome, this past November we found Paladium and enoteca, not far from the Spanish Steps and it was excellent, you may want to try it too...but definitely make reservations there!

lci- trying to find a website or actual address for "Al Forno", as I will be heading to Rome in March and wanted to add it to my Rome Restaurants Google map.
Do you have address or website? Also, for "Paladium and enoteca"?
Grazie mille!

There is Forno in Campo dei Fiori where we had pizza bianco, here is the website:
http://www.fornocampodefiori.com/main.php
We also had a meal at Al Bric. Here is the website:
http://www.albric.it/index.shtml
Palatium's address is Via Frattina, 94. There seems to be a problem with Palatium's website, because I wasn't able to access. The restaurant is located just a few blocks from the Spanish Steps.
Have a great time!
