Thistle Barbican

Has anyone stayed at the Thistle barbican City hotel? Besides the usual questions, How far of a walk is it to the nearest tube stop?

Dan,

According to the Thistle Hotels web site ,www.thistlehotels.co.uk
the Barbican City hotel is around 10 minutes walk from either Old Street or Barbican tube stations (in London, for Duh?). They also run a shuttle service from the hotel to Old Street.
The hotel has a fitness room and swimming pool ( free to guests)

I have not stayed at the Barbican but at the Tower Thistle by Tower Bridge for 2 weeks and it was very good.

Have a great time

( The 10min walk is probably on the conservative side ie 7-8 minutes if you walk faster)

Haven't stayed in that particular hotel, but have always had good luck with the Thistle chain. No complaints.

An awful LOT depends on the purpose of your trip. Thistle hotels are fine -- but this one is not at all convenient for a leisure trip. If it is for business you would be near several business centers. But for a vacation you would find this really out of the way.

It is in an area that is very quiet at night and I would be very careful about walking from Old Street tube station late at night after the theatre for example.

The Hotel itself is very nice - but not near anything you would want to see -- It is even a long walk from the Barbican.

How about the Thistle Hyde Park? Has anyone stayed there?

For a tourist - thistle Hyde Park would be 1000% better as far as location is concerned. (Price might be another matter however.) It is on Bayswater Rd directly across the street from Kensington Gardens and midway between Queensway and Lancaster gate tube stations.

Thanks for the input! I wound up changing my reservation to the Thistle Kensington Palace. 59 pounds per night on Londontown.com!
