2 tickets for us! We have no other plans for that night! LOL! And a LDC dinner before sounds perfect.

I guess things tend to be late night there. How late does it stay light? I remember in Spain in June it was 11 pm before it was really dark.

I have both your emails Matt and Lobo so I will email you with phone numbers, etc. We have reservations at the Turim Hotel on Rua Filipe Folque and will arrive on Thursday June 1.

Thanks so much - 2 weeks. Now I am really excited.

Dear friends, I'll be offline during most of weekend, because of pampering 87 years old mother activities. Any queries will be answered tomorrow nigt (if I know the answers).
Barb, by 10 pm, it should be already dark.

I just found this post on Namaka's thread so I cut and pasted it here, it's from ScienceNut...

"I have a conference in Lisbon June 14-18. June 13-18 we will do some half day tours to Sintra, in Lisbon etc. I want to take some kind of transport to the beaches to the south of Lisbon ( Cararica?) where the train does a series of stop offs at the beaches ...i.e. a day trip with public transport. Advice here? We are staying at the Tivoli Lisboa, June 13-19, and we plan on doing a lot of Lisbon wandering around and exploring, then renting a car to go north for three days. We will stay at a coastal pousadas near Aveira, tour Conimbriga etc, drive on to Oporto, stay at the Pestana two nights, take the long train/boat Duoro cruise, back to Oporto and then drive to Lisbon, stay at the Tivoli Lisboa again and up early to the airport on June 23.

I hope this trip will initiate us to Portugal and we can go again in off seasons. That is the way we like to travel. An initial trip to a place followed by more leisurely and "locale" enjoying trips later.

Any off-hand advice, comments on accommodations etc are most appreciated."

So who can make some suggestions? I'll chip in with some info on Costa a bit later.

I'll be buying those tickets to Dulce Pontes tomorrow, so speak up now anyone else who wishes to join us for a night of Fado in the castle on June 2nd.

Matt, are you already available to do some field work? Tomorrow Páteo is closed and opens again Tuesday. I have something to bring to your consideration. What about asking for some Sangria in addiction to the red wine? I think that some LDC members could enjoy.
Confirmed presences are:
Matt+Liz
Gert+Joao
Nancy+1
Linda+Lew
Jen+Greg

I am also considering:
Cindy+Jason
Vitor
However I don't have any contact whatsoever. Matt, have you heard anything from them recently?

Hi All -

I arrive in Lisbon on July 5 and depart on July 10 (2:15 a.m.!). Would love to join a LDC outing during that time if one is scheduled.

Also, am interested in hearing about any Lisbon walking tours.

Thanks for your help.

"What about asking for some Sangria in addiction to the red wine?"

You bad bad wolf you - and if they don't like it I certainly do. What are you trying to do? Get me drunk and take advantage of me? Make me sing Karoake? Actually the only thing I will sing is Don Macleans "American Pie" so they better have it on the list and I will expect some back up from the foreign contingent!

Now I have in my sweaty palms 6 tickets for Friday June 2nd: concert starts at 10pm - unreserved seating so I guess get there around 9pm ish for better places (You know how Portuguese are arriving for football: last minute...) It is my suggestion to meet by the big archway on Praça do Commercio at +/- 6.30 so we can take a slow stroll up to the castle and eat on the way. What do you think?

Namaka,

Thanks for the dolphin info - you know each year we talk about doing it: this summer I think we actually will. In that other thread you asked about the 2 ferries - the one from Belem to Trafaria is at the opposite end of the city: yes you can get a cab or a bus to Christo Rei but easier to go Cais do Sodre - Cacilhas for that. However I still recommend the Belem ferry for the views.

It sounds perfect. This Sunday, I'll do some scouting on "bas fond" places between alfama and castle. Pig ears salad and grilled sardines are among the target foods...
Are you available to go tomorrow to Páteo? I don't mean a full meal, but we could pass by after diner to have a coffee and discuss the final details with Jaime.
Have you heard anything about Cindy, Jason and Vitor? Are you confident they will show up?

Hello all! My husband and I are getting very excited for our upcoming trip! I have another question for you that I'm hoping you can answer. How much time should we give to seeing the sights at Belem? I was thinking that we should check out that area on Saturday, before LDC, since we'll already be in the area. What time should we catch a cab and head over there?

Lobo, how about dinner there tomorrow? Not 100% sure about Lizzy but I can make it, just for research purposes and come back on the ferry. I'll call you later. Vitor is still looking to come, he'll be emailing me this week, Cindy and Jason still a ?

Bailey, looking foward to hooking up - Belem is a day, especially if you do a return trip on the Belem Trafaria Ferry which is worth it for the views to Belem and the bridge. Roll up around 10 am and have a nice day there take things easy and enjoy the day. Don't get too frantic if you can't squeeze everything in. The one thing I have to recommend actually going inside (rather than just looking at) is Jeronimos Monastery, the cloisters are particularly stunning.

Matt, if the reason is research purposes, the answer is YES!
Baileys, don't be afraid of going early to Belem area. Keep CCB to the last visit. If it happens that you are tired, look for the CCB's coffee shop with the balcony (terrace?) overlooking the Tagus River, ask for a drink and relax there looking to the yachts, cargo boats and trains on the bridge. Sun glasses are highly advisable.

Matt and lobo - thanks for the quick responses!

Lobo - what does CCB stand for? Or is it a coffee shop called "CCB coffee shop" and it doesn't matter what it stands for?

CCB = Belem Cultural Centre. It should be BCC, but English is like Arabic or Chinese, it reads from right to left, at least as far as acronyms are concerned, and therefore is CCB.
If you are facing the Jeronimos Monastery, the CCB is the stone building on your left (the west side of Belem square). It's a congress and exposition center. It's impossible to miss since it imposes by itself.

thanks lobo - I see it on the map you emailed me. The map is a big help - we shouldn't have any problems getting around Belem and finding the LDC meeting point.

Thanks again.

Namaka. So glad you found the dolphin info helpful.
It is something that we would like to do, but actually I am thinking that I am getting Lisbon overload.
There is really no way we can do half of the things listed in the two posts in four days.
I guess we will just have to plan another trip. Are you not getting so excited?

Sherry, I haven't really had the chance to get excited yet. In between work and the kids school, daughter's hula dancing, cheer try-outs,son's baseball where I am the team mom, and trying to plan this trip that starts in Paris, to Lisbon then on the England, I'm pretty beat! I still have so much planning to do. I'm still working on how to get to/from the airport in San Francisco, what to do for cell service, I have to still book transportation to Heathrow from London among other things, but I still have about 3 weeks!!!! It's all coming together though thanks to all of you!

The meeting place and the food on the walk to the castle sound good to us! I will let you know how to spot us when I get around to packing and know what identifiable clothes we may have. I guess this is an outdoor event and dress for the weather? Thanks for the link Matt - Dulce Pontes sounds really interesting.

Unfortunately I have had a bad week with the death of a close friend's husband. So The trip has not been my first priority this week - and we leave Sat. While it will now be difficult to be away I am determined to have the wonderful time I had planned.

I will be thinking about the big LDC meeting going on as we leave the states.

Have fun and See you soon!
