Well, NYC HAS been called the food capital of the world( among many other things!) But, the only "camel spit" I know of is happening at the Central Park Zoo. And that's a nasty visual(LOL)

Glad to see you're feeling better Matt

Last update on LDC:

I understood I've made a mistake. It's not shrimp açorda as I said yesterday, but prawns açorda (Alentejanan bread stew with prawns)
It's never to late to correct a mistake.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...d/LDCweb11.jpg (thanks Matt)

Another note: capuccino coffee and cheeseburgers are not available.

Aw gee, too bad about the burghers and black coffee. Just don't cancel the red wine and port and I'm sure we'll muddle through ok

Matt, I hope you are back to normal (is that a good thing?) by now.

Sara and Namaka, I have booked that VRBO apartment for October. We will be in Lisbon for eight nights and it just seemed logical to have an apartment. I hope you will tell me of your experiences on your return.

I am so envious of your LDC plans. I know you all will have a wonderful time.

Sara. I posted a reference website on the other thread (Help with Itinerary) with information about the dolphins.

A FESTIVAL OF FADO:

"Castelo de São Jorge recebe a Festa do Fado nos dias 02 (Dulce Pontes), 03 (Mísia), 09 (Maria da F&eacute, 10 (Cristina Branco e Rodrigo Leão), 16 (António Chaínho e 1 Week Project), 17 (Joana Amendoeira e Mafalda Veiga), 23 (Aldina Duarte) e 24 (Kátia Guerreiro)."

Roughly translated - St Jorge's Casle hosts the 2006 Fado Festival between 2nd June and 24th June with tickets at 10 E per performance. A wonderful way to experience fado and the castle and there are some big names listed there. On a warm Lisbon evening what better way to relax than with some wine and fado. In fact, Lobo would you be interested in going to any of these with Lizzy and I? Anyone else - it will be a good evening whichever we choose. (And Lobo you know the performers better than I so you suggest a night.)

Still not had time to Photoshop the Porto train photos yet - Bailey, I've responded to your mail, thanks for the photo. See you soon ;-)

A Sintra link:
http://www.cm-sintra.pt/Artigo.aspx?ID=3202

This is the old tramway to Praia das Maças: so cheap and well worth a look whilst out that way if you get time.

Actually this was taken from the Sintra Camara tourism site:

http://www.cm-sintra.pt/default.aspx

There might be something else there that you fancy...

On another thread someone was asking about train travel to Porto so I've just copied and pasted my brief reply here (Not part of the trip report - just a quick overview of the Alfa Pendular service Lisboa - Oporto)

I've just done a trip to Porto on the trains, though somewhat more priveleged than normal (long story, photos to follow). However.

Best bet if wanting a window seat is to buy a couple of hours beforehand at the terminal in Lisbon - Stª Apolonia. Cost one way 2nd class is 23.50 or 27 E (2nd class depending at which time you travel). Travel time +/- 3 hrs. Second class is much like an aircraft - reserved seats (state if you want window or aisle) with folding tables and footrests, very comfortable, TVs show features. No smoking bar selected places. Bar and restaurant facilities. Luggage can be stowed overhead or at the end of each carraige compartment there is luggage storage facilities. Compared to the UK the platforms are lower so a couple of steps up to the train no problems. A very smooth ride and the train tilts round curves, max speed is 220 KPH. Lots to see from the windows as you approach Porto best views are from the left hand side of the train (again state when buying ticket) to Atlantic and Porto old city. If travelling during sunset hours left hand side of train esp by window gets very bright with the sun, pull down curtains at windows. Look out for Aveiro station, beautifully preserved main station building with traditional tiled scenes. (from left hand side of train).

BTW two stops available in Porto - Vila Nova De Gaia (South of Douro) and Campanhã (North bank of Douro)

ok Matt We will be there the evenings of June 2 and 3. Fado at the castle sounds perfect as a LDC event.

What do you and Lobo think?

Barb, Dulce Pontes is one of Portugal's big names: if we want to see her I'll have to check ticket availability tomorrow. Lobo, you free on the 2nd?

Matt you are a night owl.

Don't worry if you can not get the tickets since it is a popular night. But it would certainly be an experience we would be interested in if you guys are up for it.

I have a busy couple of days so it may be difficult for me to get back to you so be patient but I will try.

Thanks
Barb

Okay so it looks like there are still tix for Dulce Pontes on the 2nd - if bought through FNAC box office the tickets cost 10 euros each + 1 euro commision per ticket.

Here's a link:

http://www.fnac.pt/produto.aspx?cata...=2304992010008

It would be nice to have dinner before hand and then go. So how many are definitely interested in order for me to purchase tickets in advance?

Lobo+Loba=1+1.
You don't need to advance the money for my tickets. When in Colombo, call me or send me an SMS and I'll show up.

Sorry Matt, after a 2nd look I understood that you might want to purchase on-line. If I'm right, please consider 2 tickets for us, otherwise the phone call to let me know you are is Colombo remains valid. Whatever you prefer is ok for me.
