Things to Do
I may be going to Nijmegen for four weeks in June to work on a dig, and I will have weekends free as well as time to travel. What are some good weekend trips in and around the Netherlands? What things do I have to see while I'm there? I'd love to visit some of the surrounding countries as well as explore the Netherlands.

Joellebelle89: Welcome to Fodors. Just some info to help you use the forums better -- you will get lots of help here.
There is only one forum - "Europe" - so your "Things to Do" could be asking anything and is lumped in w/ threads about London (which would be a good weekend trip BTW), Greece, and which airlines fly to Milan.
Unfortunately you can't change your title. You'll need to start a new thread w/ a better title. I'd use something like "Weekend trips from Nijmegen?" because you aren't just looking for advice about the Netherlands.
Paris, Bruge, London and of course anywhere in the country would be possible . . . . .

Nijmegen is right on the German border, with cities like Cologne, and the Rhine/Mosel within easy reach.
Within the Netherlands, Amsterdam, Den Haag Rotterdam, Maastricht are obvious choices. Utrecht is easy to get to too. The Kroller Muller museum in the Hoge Veluwe national Park is not far away. If you want to go a bit further then go up to Friesland, or explore Overijssel, other parts of Gelderland. All offer lovely countryside, and interesting villages and towns.
Belgium and Luxembourg are also nearly on your doorstep.
