The Tube
In general, what are the first and last tubes on weekend and weekdays for central zones..for instance if we go to the theatre at 8:00 and then go for dinner or drinks afterwards, will we have a hard time taking the tube or taxi back to County Hall...don't want to have to walk that far in my dress shoes

Check thetube.com for timetables. It has a schedule of first and last trains for each of the tube lines. I think the trains run 5-6 am to 12-1 am Monday thru Saturday. Slightly more abbreviated hours on Sunday.

Personally, I'd take a cab back to County Hall. You won't have any trouble catching one especially in the theatre district.

hmathis: You won't have any trouble. Most theatres let out between 10 and 10:30PM. So even if your supper takes almost 2 hours you will be OK - but few restaurants serve that late anyway. You can take cabs (they charge extra at night) or the tube w/o any problems. If it is a nice night the walk across Westminster Bridge w/ Big ben, County Hall and The Eye illuminated is wonderful.

I have to agree with Janis - you will have no trouble taking the tube after an evening show.

the official site for the tube, in case you have anything else you want to know!

http://www.thetube.com

Have fun in London!
