The Shard - view from the top

Has anyone on the forums here gone to the top of the Shard.

It's on my list for my trip to London. Looks wonderful. (I love the views from high places.). Just wondered if anyone has the first hand experience.

Not personally, but my mother went with friends and thought the view was fabulous.

I wouldn't fancy being there if there was a fire alarm. ISTR we worked out it would take an hour to walk down all the stairs (the lifts stop working in that event).

You can also consider getting rotated to the top of London Eye, a Ferris wheel with pretensions http://www.londoneye.com/

Hi SATXLady, yes I visited in June last summer. Worth the price of admission about $40 US. The best time to go is around twilight but I went earlier on a Tuesday evening around 6ish and it was not that crowded.

I have read that the developers are having a hard time filling up the complex - hotel, business offices, residences etc. The site is easily accessed from London Bridge station.

If you click on my name you will find a description in my London/Wales trip report - Tuesday, June 25

Thanks.

Southam, I have been on the London Eye my last two visits (several years ago) and love it. One of my favorite photos of myself was taken inside one of the capsules from the top with Big Ben and Westminster abbey in the background. I may still go to the London Eye again this trip, even if I do the shard.

SATXLady, on reflextion, I would choose the London Eye over the Shard if I only had time/money to do one of these attractions.

For one thing, the iconic views of Parliament and Buckingham Palace are better from the Eye.

Has anyone been to the restaurants? Aqua serves breakfast from 7 am - that sounds interesting. There's an express breakfast for 8.50.

I would love to stay at the Shangri-La there. But it's awfully pricey.
