THE LONDON PASS

Yes, we bought 7-day London Passes last summer. What would you like to know?

One thing that's totally unclear from their web site is that you can buy them at train stations and tourist bureaus AFTER you get to London, without the travel pass, which works out cheaper for most people.

It's funny, the web site is confusing and doesn't answer a few key questions, but the booklet that come with the card is excellent.

It was very handy for going straight to the front of the line at the Tower of London and includes lot of little benefits like a free 9and very nice) teddy bear if you spend more than £5 at Hamley's, etc.

It's a great deal IF you're planning on doing enough of hte things on the list. We were in London for two weeks, so spent one going to free places and the other going to the Pass places. Every traveler's prefernces are unique, though, so you really have to cost-out the alternatives for yourself.

Yes, we found that the card was described accurately and did include free admission to the Tower of London and all the other listed places that we tried. Each place has a special credit-card-type machine that they swipe the London Pass card thru as you enter (it looks like a credit card, wth a magnetic strip on the back).

I did not use it for currency exchange, as I just used my ATM card.

Question to which I can't find an answer: Is a 6 day London Pass only good for 6 consecutive days?

Penny,

Where did you get a price of $90 CDN for three days? It seems rather high as I found a six-day pass for little over a $100. Maybe we get whacked for shipping...

On the Britrail Canada site, they offer the London Pass for $75 CDN for the three day pass without travel portion. They say to call 1-866-732-7786 top order. I haven't done it yet as my trip is only in August.

Did you know that you can get a Travel Pass priced in CDN from Holiday House Travel (holidaynetwork.ca) without shipping and handling fees.
Hi Tania,
I tried to find the London Pass on the Britrail Canada site, and couldn't find it. The London Travel Pass is more than quoted on the raileurope site, where I found the London Pass for $90.
I belong to BCAA and because we didn't buy our airline tickets there, they wanted $32.00 each person for passes bought from the Holiday House brochure. I think "Flightline" is the best way to go. They're mailing me brochures, so I'll know then. They don't have any extra charges.

Tania, the LondonPass day-count starts when you buy it, so yes it's for consecutive days. For example, a 6-day London Pass bought on Monday would be good through Saturday. A related tidbit: You can use it once each day for each attraction -- so if you fall in love with the Tower of London, you can use the pass there every day!

The current prices listed on the LondonPass web site are £49 for an adult 3-day pass wtihout the transport option (£68 with) and £69 for a 6-day pass without transport (£107 with).

You can buy a one-week transport pass in London for £19.30 that provides unlimited rides on tube and buses in zones 1 and 2, so that's the best deal for most people sine most attractions are in zone 1. One-day transport passes are £5.30 before 9:30 AM, £4.10 after, and £6.60 for the whole weekend (you didn't mention which days of the week you'll be there).
