The London House Hotel
I'm almost afraid to ask... Does anyone have experience with the London House Hotel. Websites show simple rooms with amenities that we are looking for (microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker...)
The price was very cheap and the location seems ok (in Bayswater, by Paddington station and Hyde Park).
Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Wendy

We stayed at the London House (13 Craven Hill Road) in June 2000. I'm not sure if this is the same place you are inquiring about because there are other hotels in the area with similar names. We had a large airy triple room with a high ceiling. It overlooked a residential garden at the back of the property and was quiet; the street out front is also quiet. There was a small kitchen area in one corner of the room. The bathroom was very, very small and could have used some refurbishing. Overall, it was clean and adequate for a place to stay, but it's not at all special. We were there during a heatwave and because of the high ceiling, the room remained cool. The tube runs underground (duh) close by and there's an opening across the street through which you can hear a lot of noise when a train passes by, so you might want to request a room at the rear. Oh yes, the fire alarm sounded three times one night while we were there. We were told it happened because someone who was smoking set off the alarm. Tip: We booked through www.laterooms.com because it was a last minute trip. In the current travel climate, you may find a better property for the same price. The location was good. There are several ethnic restaurants nearby.
Aloha Betsy.. Thank you for the response. You described the property just as I had imagined it.. Not great but not terrible. If we stay at The London House Hotel we will ask for a room at the rear of the property (thanks for the tip!).
I am leaning towards the Bloomsbury area.. What do you think?

There is a very large number of hotels in the Bloomsbury area, ranging from quite expensive, such as the Imperial, Hotel Russell and Radisson Edwardian, down to Bed and Breakfast hotels leading down from Russell Square to the centre of London, though some of them may be used by the authorities as temporary housing. Some of the bigger ones may be doing deals at the moment. University terms start next week so halls of residence will probably no longer be offering rooms to visitors.

Aloha Duncan.. My first choice when planning this trip was to stay at the Hotel Russell. I Loved Victorian look of the place when we visited London last time. I will give them a call and see what kind of special offering they may have.
Thank you!
(Mahalo! ...in Hawaiian)
