One neat thing right near Conwy is again the Great Orme - a very famous lookout point on top of the Great Orme a large limestone pile- though you can drive up top you can also take the antique Great Orme tramway up near the summit where there are several walking paths - but the views are great - on clear day see way over to Blackpool's iconic Blackpool Tower - Britain's Eiffel Tower:

Conwy is a great base. I was there a couple of years ago.

I found Beaumaris disappointing, must be best from the air, but it didn't take me all day to get there by bus.

Yes Beaumarais is neat from afar but if I recall right not much more than the impressive outer walls- yet a short drive from Conwy:
