Claire, I read a Fodor's trip report recently but I can't remember whose it was. They paid €500 for their dinner at jules Verne. I don't know if that's typical or not, for me that's too much, but each to their own.

Cathies is correct, its around that much. If this is the only meal you and your husband go out for alone for the entire trip, it may be worth it to you. I also justified it by the time we saved not having to wait to get up to the tower... Private elevator. They also have lunch if I recall for half that amount if you wanted a lunch date or if evening reservations are booked. There is also a restaurant on the lower level of the Eiffel Tower which is less expensive but was good food (again, back in 2006). I don't think you can go wrong with any advice you get about restaurants in Paris from the more experienced Fodorites. I just know I loved the food there, from restaurant to cafes to truck food!

I have made 110 trips to Paris, never eaten at the Jules Verne, and never want to. As cathies said, to each his own, but I have been far more content to find special places all over the city with amazing food and ambience where I can eat tremendously well without throwing money away. I also don't find anything particularly appealing about gazing out over Paris from the Tour Eiffel while eating (and yes, I've been up the tower many, many times, but eating there while it rocks in the wind,or even doesn't, holds little appeal). For a fifth of the price, my sweetie and I can have an unutterably romantic meal in any number of beautiful places in the city.

Dining at Jules Verne for the views never made any sense to me. Most of the best views in Paris include the Eiffle Tower . . . which one can't see <i>from</i> the Eiffel Tower.

Tulips

Georges, on top of the Centre Pompidou, has great views (including of the Eiffel Tower) and is nice for dinner.

I have been to Jules Vernes, and would not go again.

Despite staying in Paris for long periods I've never been up the Eiffel Tower - in fact at this stage I think it's become it's own kind of fetish NOT to go up it. Anyway, to me it makes more sense to look at the Eiffel Tower, though this isn't my first criteria for dinner! However, I would recommend a drink at the bar/restaurant in the Tour Montparnasse which has a lovely view over the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides.

SO what would you do . .stay in the first one then spend a small fortune and go to disneyland for 2 nights

or

stay here and just do a day trip to disney.

Day trip to Disney will be PLENTY and no moving.
As for JV, we had lunch and LOVED it. You can actually see Paris, and it didn't break the bank.

The apartment looks great. We have never been to Jules Verne either. We like to try smaller places. We have discovered Reed in the 7th on Rue Amalie as a new favorite. Her food is fabulous.

I have been holding off posting because well, just because.

Did you notice this latest "find" is a 3rd-floor walk-up, 4 flights of stairs from the ground floor? Okay with this? Mom okay with this? Okay with the balcony and a two-year old? Who carries the stroller(s) up and down the stairs?

The area is posh.

Just do a day-trip to Disney.

besides the stairs that separate the bedrooms to the living area I can't see the 3rd floor walk up you are talking about.

the balcony we will be fine with . . . the only complaint I have is the lack of a TV in front of the couch! But I am sure we will manage!

I sort of agree with everyone that a day trip to disney and staying put in one place is best so without further a do the place is now ....BOOKED! The company is great ..they allow a 7day cooling off period just in case you change your mind . .hence why this came available to us!

Irock . .your right! We are fine with that though . . .just glad to know ahead of time! one way to burn off the croissants we eat. Not looking forward to carrying the luggage up though! But I think at this stage in the trip beggars can't be chooses . .right???

I need to go with my gut and I feel this company is great and 30 min walk to the places is fine and the area is nice . .well so you have said that is . . .so I think this is fine!

If not I will certainly be letting you all know with my trip report!

I looked at the Fauborg St Honoré apartment in the 8th, first thing I saw was the statement "3rd floor walkup" in upper right corner. The elevator must be listed elsewhere.

HI Cathinjoetown . . .no I was still looking at the old apartment . .your right it is 3rd floor walkup but beside our first day when I will do the luggage it'll be fine! I have a feeling we are going to need the exercise after reading about all the delicious bakeries that are going to be around. But thanks for bringing that to my attention!
