Scarlett, dahlin', welcome back!

So glad you and your family had a wonderful time in spite of the weather...knew you would.

I don't suppose you smuggled back a kir for me? Ah, well, at least you enjoyed some yourself.

I always thought I'd like you if we ever met, but this clinches it...any parent who raises a child with the good taste and emotional depth to appreciate Leonard Cohen rates an A+...well done!

Aww, thank you all for your kind remarks..
Kristina, take something with color, be wild and crazy I am sure once the weather warms up and they start shedding the dark layers, there will be color in Paris again! The shop windows were full of color , it is bound to find it's way to the people.
grandmere, travel with adult children is fun!
He arrived last night, a long flight from Paris to NJ to Florida, fog and rain along the way. We are all jetlagged together now..Pup is just wondering what happened to everyone ((&amp)
Pup went to the groomer yesterday, he no longer smells like greyhounds. He looks quite dapper and we will try scarves on him later.
I did not buy a scarf. I wanted one that had a design on it that looked like an Art Nouveau stained glass pattern, light as a feather, extremely costly. I managed not to whimper when I said No thank you, just looking.
Yes, things are expensive in Paris. The Euro makes things worse. But I had as good a time as I have in the past when I spent like a lunatic.
betty0
Tokyo is worse if you don't want conformity..walk down the street and see masses of young ladies all in Chanel or all in school girl outfits ( and they are not all schoolgirls)..
111op, he really liked the hotel and the people that ran it. His room was very quiet and he was comfortable.
One evening, he said he got off the train and was walking toward the hotel, when he noticed two large men in mini-skirts. Then he remembered what he had read about the area LOL
kswl,NYC will always be the Fashion Leader
I will dig out that recipe and post it soon.
Did I tell you that Spring arrived in Florida while we were gone? Flowers are blooming and trees are green..it made coming back a wee bit easier~

Here is the site for the apartment.
It looks exactly the way it does in the photos.

So if your theory about color is correct, today is in the 70's in Paris... I think. Sigh. I wonder if the ladies have opted for a bit of splash

An adventure in Paris is grand by definition, isn't it? Even if doing dishes is involved. ;-)
So glad you had a wonderful time.
Welcome home.

Ahh, Leonard Cohen. As soon as I read his name I began humming The Sisters of Mercy

..."When I left they were sleeping,
I hope you run into them soon.
Don't turn on the lights,
you can read their address by the moon." ( or even better , by the twinkling Eiffel Tower lights.)

Sounds like a great trip, Scarlett. Of course, I am one who believes any trip to Paris is bound to be great.

I'm off now to find a scarf for Albert the Wonderpug. I think he'll look very suave.

It is cold and snowy in my corner of North Carolina this morning....so, I check into Fodor's to see if something interesting is up...and there it is! Scarlett's report of her Paris adventure. Loved it. Made my heart sing and I do believe I feel spring in the air. Thanks so much, Scarlett. Oh, and spare poor Pup the scarf. He is toooo elegant for such common wear.

As we know, there's been a lot of press about Mireille Guiliano lately. I just wanted to link this article and quote what she had to say about scarves:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/13/ma...13DOMAINS.html

"Item of clothing she can't live without: This is very French, but my scarves. They are great to have when you travel. I can make four different outfits out of a pair of black pants with different scarves. I like Hermes, but my favorites are from a tiny store in Paris."

This article was posted on this forum already -- but it's an interesting one on Paris fashion trends (Times -- 3/13):

Sounds like a lovely trip! I keep wondering whether we should go the apartment route instead of hotels but I do so appreciate maid service! Perhaps I shall have to try it next time?

Will you still try and visit Japan soon?

So glad that amid all the new places, you still went to Ladurees. I was thinking earlier that a lovely pistachio macaroon would be perfect on St. Pat's Day.

Hi Scarlett - I enjoyed your Paris report. The apartment you stayed at may not have been large but it ozzed a lot of charm.

Welcome back.

I must stop reading Paris trip reports! I want to go back, but I'm saving all my $ for my Sept Italy trip. Sounds as though you had a great time!

Yes, kavey, we are still hoping for Japan sometime this year.
Susan, I would like to start planning an Italy trip
egbear, since we had not been to the Laduree on the Left Bank, I considered it New Anything in the name of chocolate!
Madison, yes, it did ooze charm.
I left out something that some people might be interested in.
I design jewelry and thanks to dln, who was in Paris in Feb..I got a name and address of a bead shop in the Marais.
The Yankee and I braved the place on a Saturday ( big mistake) and fought through the crowds, and had a lovely treasure hunt through all sorts of wonderful beads and doo dads. If you are into that sort of thing, go to Matiere Premiere @12 rue de Sevigne or
Tout a Louisiers @ rue de Archives #50-52

Nice that you're back Scarlett. Sorry about the weather. Got a kick out of your fashion observations. I just bought Yellow and Electric Blue Faconnable Plain front Cotton Slacks! Hahaha! So Albert Goldberg is from Nice...that's like the Treasure Coast here right? I like the Rue Cler markets also and was delightfully surprised (when having a food craving)to stop in at the little Vietnamese shop for a bite. Think they know my first name in the Nichol's shop next to the Bakery (a sinful place). Good to have you back safely and full of spunk.

A very original report, Scarlett! And very entertaining reading, as always, about one of my favorite cities in the whole world.

I am glad to see that the girl got the goods, er, beads! With your talent for jewelry design, you will have some wonderful treasures made to remind you of your week in Paris.

Merci beaucoup, mermaid ~
John, we went straight to Nichols after dropping off our luggage at the apt. And as bad luck would have it, they were closed on Monday!
We were in that little boulangerie every day- as well as across the street at L'Notre, who provided my son with a lovely quiche/brie/baguette picnic one day. That was one of the best parts of the apt rental- shopping like a French housewife

Scarlett, loved your report, and glad you had such a great time. The apartment looks just lovely on their website- and the view of the Eiffel Tower - wow! They really seem to furnish their apartments beautifully, at least the website descriptions and pictures are wonderful. I liked the Rue Cler pictures, too.
