The Euro or DM/AT?
Hello! I will be traveling to Germany and Austria in the summer and always like to take some cash with me that I have gotten in the US. What do you recommend: The Euro or DM & AT? Is the Euro commonly accepted by everyone now in Germany and Austria? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There have been many posts on this subject. The euro will not be in circulation until 2002. At the moment, you will see prices (in shops, on menus etc) quoted in euros and the local currency. This is to help the locals get used to the value of the euro prior to its issue.

I can't see why you would want to do this. If you want to take Traveller's checks, take them in US dollars. However, you'll find on this forum that many people (myself included) have long since given up using travellers checks and instead use Visa/Mastercard and ATMs to get cash, as the most cost effective way to spend money abroad.
