The Dollar is on the rise.

Currently planning a new trip to France, as my summer trip fell bust to several factors. I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that the dollar has risen pretty quickly. Since November 25th, when it was $1.51375 to the Euro, it is now sitting at $1.36875 - about a 10% increase. Are there any arbitragers out there that can tell me when it's going to stop or level off? I'm wanting to book and pay for an apartment when the exchange is best. I've already saved $75.00 since Monday by waiting, but I'm wondering if this will be merely temporary, short-lived, or a continuing trend.

I guess the gods are looking out for me. This is the first European trip I have ever taken that the $ was actually on the rise against the Euro. I leave next week for Rome for 2 weeks.

Is it dollar getting stronger, or Euro getting weaker? I'm watching kroner(s) - forgot what the plural form

I read this in the NYT today - Europe's financial slump isn't going to recover anytime soon:

Good point Dayenu, but for me, it's the end result. Whichever is the case, I'm wondering how long to hold off. Also, once I reserve the apartment - assuming that I choose an apartment that is rented in euros only, you usually have until 60 days prior to arrival to pay the balance. My thought is that if in say June its down to 1.30 should I pay off the balance for a March rental, or wait. I guess if I could actually get this information, I'd be an arbitrager myself and make millions. I'm just trying to save a couple of hundred, if I can.

It's the Euro on the fall not the dollar on the rise. There are several threads on this here at the moment.

Hey Aper,

>I'm wanting to book and pay for an apartment when the exchange is best.<

How many millions of Euro are we talking about that a twopenny difference will matter?

The apartments the group are looking at total just over 2000E. If it drops to 1.30, that'll save $220.00. Not millions, but still a sizeable amount for those on a budget. If I can simply wait and save myself that amount, I'd do it. If it was likely going to be back at 1.51, it'd be an additional $200.00, so its' a $420.00 swing.

Hi AP,

The Euro is now about $1.36. A drop to $1.30 is 5%, or so. 5% of 2000 is 100.

The bunch of you will spend that a souvenir stands and not even notice it.
