The best way to get from the airport to Versailles?

My husband and I will be arriving at Charles de Gaulle on a Sunday morning in June and we want to get to Versailles to rent a car on our way to Mont St. Michel. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do that? If by train, what train could we take? <BR>How far is a car rental place from the palace in Versailles?

Half an answer only. Hope it helps. Friends of ours live in Versailles--RER commuter trains leave from the underground Invalides Station in Paris and arrive about half and hour later near the chateau.I think there's an air terminal at Invalides as well. DeGaulle airport should have a website somewhere that could help you. Other trains leave from Montparnasse that go to another station in Versailles. Why not rent your car at the airport and drive there. It's really kind of a suburb of Paris. We've only taken the train because we were going to visit friends. You won't have to drive in Paris to drive to Versailles.

Versailles is right out the other side of Paris from Charles de Gaulle airport, so you have a long journey through Paris. If you use the RER you will have to change lines. It really would be easier to rent a car at the airport. It is easy enough to drive to Versailles, though the roads can be a bit hair-raising at times, even not going through the centre or on the peripherique. I would take the A86 myself though it's a long way around.

Rent a car from the airport. It's an easy drive, and will far take less time than schlepping on the RER and métro lines or taking a taxi into Paris and then taking the RER out again to Versailles. If you arrive, as most people do, fairly early in the morning, traffic on the périphérique will be crawling along at a pace that won't traumatize you.

Oops! Just realized you said Sunday morning! Well, the traffic won't be slow, but there won't be many people on the roads.
