I loved Paris and Stockholm as far as cities as they are beautiful with the bridges and rivers in between, <BR>As far as the carribean St. Croix, and Barbadoes but have heard great things about St. Barts. I aslo loved many towns <BR>in France, Hornfluer, La Rochelle,and ille de re. I also am in love with the Netherlands Harlem, Leiden, Delft, Middleberg and Maastraact.

We've taken many family vacations - the best memory makers I can think of! We have teen ages girls and the favorite vacations for them are anything tropical. We've had wonderful times in the Keys and in the Caribbean - as long as there's sun, beach and surf we're all in heaven. Good luck!

Oh, golly, let's all join hands now and sing Kumbaya. Questions like this one are such drivel. Sure, everyone likes some place and that's all you are going to get on such a posting. For crying out loud, Jen, can't you eliminate SOMEPLACE in your search for "somewhere really special". C'mon Pollyanna, I'll bet you have already ruled out Antarctica and Botswana. This is a travel board, not a fly mat for drawing in the people that meet the soccer mom/dad, IQ under 90, etc. All you are going to find is like minded Reader's Digest subscribers that learn one new word every day and give you SOLID travel guidance such as: <BR>"the best place in the world is home" [in all cases?], "wherever you choose to go together will be the best" [I'll look forward to a bordello in Juarez then], "snuggled up with my fluffy husband" [at least it's accurate and precise---hope it helps your search---he may be available part-time]. <BR> <BR>Seriously, a lot of people posting here have a lot of knowledge, but no one of these is going to assist you without you narrowing down your choices. They're not going to even open this posting. <BR>I suggest you think about the kind of experience you want first: basking in the sun and rising only to walk to the waves drifting in on the shore? city hustle/bustle? want the historical bus tours? want to see 5 or 6 countries in a week and a half or focus on one region and leave feeling like you know it? These are the questions which, if you will answer as many as you can and then repost with something somebody can get their fingers and experience into,... you get a lot more than what you got, because what you've gotten up to this point is very general answers to the most general question you could have possibly posed. <BR>I recommend that you think for yourself and try to narrow things down from WORLD to CONTINENT to COUNTRY to ETC. You obviously know that such a general question

I agree that Germany has it all. But more specifically, Berchtesgaden. It has all the winter sports (topnotch facilities), all the summer stuff you might want to do (except the beach), culture, history and fantastic food. The scenery is exquisite. You are only a few minutes from the music and culture of Salzburg. When I win the lottery (as soon as I can afford to buy a ticket) this is where I'm going to set up my Tex-Mex restaurant.

AUSTRIA , A U S T R I A , A..S..T..R..I..A <BR>It has everything.It's Europe in a nutshell.Vienna is as magnificent as Paris,Schonnbrun is compared to Versailes.It has castles along river Danube like the Rhine valley in Germany.It has the same Alpine peaks & beatiful lakes that Switzerland has.It has picture postcard towns like Salzburg ,Graz.It's full of history & culture.The people are so warm & friendly. <BR>My 2nd chice is SANTORINI ,Greece.

The best place in the world is a little cafe in Ribeauville in Alsace France. I discovered this as I sat there eating the worlds best baguette with fresh Jam, Croissant, Cafe Creme and juice. At that moment this was the center of the universe. Sometimes the simpliest things mean so much. <BR> <BR>The place is Chez Martine on the Grand-Rue in Ribeauville.

That extreme heat, extreme cold and clouds of mosquitoes are three of the things that drove me away (of course, the mountains and coast of the Pacific Northwest also lured me away.) <BR> <BR>Now, I've traded the extreme heat, extreme cold, and clouds of mosquitoes for extreme rain, extreme gray skies, and clouds of clouds. :~) <BR> <BR>Sally, I loved Voltaire's comment too. Very well said (although I suppose one could also argue egocentric. :~)
