kopp: you had a wonderful trip with your parents... and Grindelwald would be a great central location.(and sounds you really got a beautiful chalet apartment) You certainly enjoyed EVERY minute and seem to be a very good "'traveler".
My husband and I lived overseas and travel in Europe a lot, but it's ALWAYS fun to read reports such as yours. Look forward to hearing about your England adventures. It's all truly Magical, as you said!

AND ....glad to hear from a fellow Texan! (and you truly can purchase all the Nutella you want, in Texas...and the price is dropping, so I guess it is getting more popular.)

mari, funny you should mention Costco. I was just there yesterday and guess what I saw on the shelf! A jumbo jar of Nutella. But I resisted the urge to buy. Some things just taste better on vacation, LOL!

Part 4: How's your blood pressure?

Ahh, the Full English Breakfast. Just the name conjures up fantasies of … wait a minute! What’s this on the buffet table – pork ‘n beans? Come on, what’s up with that? What am I supposed to put them on, my eggs? Then there’s this fried toast – yes, fried. Literally lathered with butter and dropped into the deep-fat fryer. Holy cholesterol! And black pudding – no, this ain’t your momma’s pudding, no sir! Please, give me my Nutella and baguette.

We loved Portsmouth! The warship HMS Victory is beautifully displayed for the throngs of tourists. Spit-polished and waxed, the ship is a magnificent tribute to a bygone era of wars fought with cannons, with the battle being won after a brilliantly executed element of surprise. And the Mary Rose, carefully covered by the spraying of wax, is an extraordinarily well-preserved vessel, considering it had been submerged underwater for many, many years.

There are more cathedrals, manor homes, and castles in the U.K. than can be imagined. On our 10-day trip, we saw our fair share, including: Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals; Wilton House, Longleat, Woburn Abbey, Hatfield House, Hampton Court, Stourhead, Petworth; and the castles I remember include Caerphilly, Cardiff, Caerleon, Chepstow, Warwick, and of course Windsor. All are magnificent, stunning, and each very unique: from the Canaletto paintings to the Capability Brown gardens to the majestic stained glass to the exquisite furnishings. Quite a lot to absorb in such a short time. Thank heavens for photographs and postcards!

Next: Watch Out – There’s a Monkey on your Roof!
