The top search does a simple search of our entire database--but just topic titles. So if you do a search there for a member name or personal name, the topics that come up will only be topics with that member name in the title. To search topics by member name, use the advanced search.
To search Theroux I would place it in the advanced search and click the "search full topics and replies". This way the search will scan everything. Was Theroux an old name of yours?
Rex--I'll need to double-check the three letter limit. The search is pretty custom built so maybe there is a way around this. I will check on Monday. My guess is that it's a precaution to prevent a search from bringing the site down. But don't take my word for it---I will follow up and post here next week after I talk to the team that worked on search.

Hi Katie,
I can't believe you have to work on the weekend!
Theroux was a reference in a thread. I did use the advance search, Europe forum, limited the date range, and checked titles and responses. I'm learning to use the advanced search more efficiently and it's really working (except for some exceptions).

This should have produced the followiong results...
http://www.fodors.com/search/results...dvanced%2Ehtml
...this has plenty of "hits" - - but none more recent than August 2008... should there be more recent threads than that?

rex- when I click on your link, I get 3 pages of hits, with the last hit on page 3 being:
<< Great adventure reads: Books that make you want to run away from home in Europe
6 responses; most recent on Feb 23, 2006, 04:14 AM >>

O.K. this is getting better every day.
I apologize for my earlier negativity. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!
I'm enjoying the profiles and photos of everyone. I can't wait until it's as easy to post a photo in yoyr report as it is on the profiles.

Yes - - that's correct - - that's the oldest thread in this bunch (because the search is set to stop at 2006) - - what I said was that there seem to be none newer than August 2008. Were you expecting something different?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding this right. Rex, I realize you're not the OP, but your link is a direct link to page 2 of the results... When I search for Theroux http://www.fodors.com/search/results...02%2F20%2F2009
I get exactly 20 results that were newer than August 2008. (Note the start=20 parameter in the link you posted...

I'd like to echo my thanks to Katie and the team as well. My first reaction was mixed - there were changes I loved and changes I hated. As every day goes by I'm adjusting more and more. And Katie has been very prompt in responding to any feedback I've sent. Also, they've made several changes in response to many of our complaints already, which speaks to their dedication to keeping this community intact.
There's bound to be more bugs and issues to come up, but luckily we have a team that is willing to step up to the plate and fix any issues they can.

Hi; I think what is interesting, is all these so called regulars on the forum who havn't 'stepped up to the plate' to at least recognize that the Fodor's people are working hard. Imagine, only 39 replies to a Thanks Katie and group, post. Of the 39, many are by the same people. It's pathetic.
- - many, many people have offered their 'Thanks and Kudos' on other threads and via personal emails, so this thread doesn't represent a headcount by any means...

Thanks Bozo for finding all those references to theroux. Perhaps I didn't use the search tool properly; since this question was from a few days ago I can't remember exactly what I did or didn't do but I'm more knowledgeable now.
I'm also adjusting more to the site each day and do love some of the new features.

Katie; I said elsewhere that I feel quite positive about it. To some extent, I think that's because I followed the stuff you put up before the change. I have to say that if I'd come on here and found this with no prior warning I'd have had the heebie jeebies.
three things (and I apologise if I'm duplicating):-
1. As far as I can see, the Share with a Friend feature isn't working.
2. PLEASE don't change the archives. Daily is PERFECT. I've really, really wanted that for years. I didn't have time to work through everything till Saturday, and it was soooo easy, by comparison with trying tor emember roughly where you were the last time you were interrupted and then having to go through page by page.
3. But, when you're on there and post, it's not taking you back where you came from the way the front page is. Any chance of sharpening that up?
4. (It's really only 3. I added number 2 on the way). When editing in this box, a couple of times I've been deleting a line and inadvertently deleted all the way to the top, because it disappears. And there's no way to get it back. If like me, one posts "live" that's a pain. Any chance of slowing down the functionality. (I think that sounds like drivel, but I hope you know what I mean)

Katie - I've like the change from the start - I know I am in the minority - but I think the whole thing looks better and is easier to navigate. It just makes a lot more sense to me. I don't understand the problem with the peachy/pink/yellow colored bar on the left. It looks lighter today? Have you tweaked that already? Thank you for all of your hard work. It is appreciated. Hi Katie - Remember my problem - scrolling left and right? Well, I'm happy to report I'm able to read down the page without the nuisance of going horizontal. Only the right fifth of the page requires a shift, but that's where your ads are I believe. Maybe it's something I did (I've been taking suggestions) but I prefer to think it's something you guys did. So Thank You!
Also - from yk's post above... "if I click on the day archive, I get ALL the topics from that day in one screen, which can easily have 200-300 posts in a 24-hr period." ... that's the method I've found to be most convenient. For that reason, can the Day Archive be located at the head of the page instead of further down? As Sheila has just said, "Daily is PERFECT."
