You missed my point Thin. I'm not at all unhappy about my height. For being 5'2", 100lbs and with perfect proportion, I think I look just fine in capris. If I was my height and heavy, I'd agree, but that's not the case. I was just curious what YOU would say as you have absolutely nothing nice to say to anyone. Guess you took the bait. No surprise.

For ThinGorjus - I suspect you are being taken wrongly.
My understanding is that you are a photographer, and are quite aware of imagery and how to make people look good; and, how to produce a beautiful, pleasing image. Fashion can be an art. Photography is certainly an art. A good eye for proportion, sensitivity to what works and what doesn't comes with time and an educated eye. And, an artist, by nature you will be quite perceptive to the visual effect, be it clothing, spacial relationships in a room, the movement of color and form in a flower arrangement, etc. I would think that you are where you are because of talent and a keen sense of design.
I appreciate your input into this forum. And, I'd love to see a finished Italy report! (It's off-topic for this thead, I know) I enjoyed reading it so much, and have printed it out for a future trip to Italy.
You are quite the writer!
There are certainly people who choose to dress themselves for comfort and being practical, who don't care so much as to the visual presentation. There are people who follow fashion trends and don't care about the visual presentation they make to others. This is all part of one's fashion sense. If someone posts to this forum for fashion advice, they will get all sorts of answers. I do not feel that your input was meanspirited.
Best,
Sharon

I'm in agreement with Sharon about ThinGorjus. My earlier comment about being sad that a US8 was considered fat was not directed at ThinGorjus. There are many people in the US who think that way and that's what I think is sad.
I honestly wish I had someone like ThinGorjus to help me develop my style.

Speaking of shoes, I think that shoes can make or break the look or "visual presentation" when wearing capris. For me, I consider comfort as well as a good look when I select shoes for any outfit(s) - vacation or not.

Speaking of ankles, there's a very funny period film that stars Petter Sellers as a dishonest doc who uses his kittens as ink blotters, and Michael Caine goes faint at the sight of a woman's ankles. "The Wrong Box."

Dearest Sharon: You are thinking of NYCFOODSNOB!!!! I am not, nor have I ever been, a photographer. After working for Todd Oldham for a number of years, I went to work for a major American auction house, where I am currently employed. I am also a certified English teacher (7-12 grade) in Pennsylvania.
I left the fashion world because of all the drugs and Machiavellian intrigue. Now I sit around and say things like, "Is that a Botero or Giacometti? I can't tell without my glasses."
Foodsnob is American; I am English. Foodsnob loves to cook; I hate to cook. Foodsnob is a WOMAN; I am a MAN. And whilst Foodsnob is relatively well-travelled in Italy, I have travelled to more than 25 countries.
Our HUMOUR is completely different. I like to think that I am the Edina Monsoon of Fodors, and Foodsnob is the Hyacith Bucket.
Cheers, sweetie.

Rosemary, you would do well to listen to ThinG. He knows what he's talking about. Why do you think What Not to Wear is so popular? Most of us really DON'T know what we should wear to make the most what we have or don't have.

Betty, what an intelligent woman you are. Some people on this forum do not take criticism well. Rosemary is one of them. (40 and baiting people on this site? That isn't child-like, but rather childish.)
Marilyn, Sharon is not the first to mistake me for Foodsnob. Long ago, Patrick accused us of being one and the same.
I would rather walk barefoot over the floors of Walmart (gasp!) than wear Saucony trainers. Being an urban pimp, I only wear Nike.
What up, dawg?
John G.

Hah, Thin, I know absolutely that you and NYCFS are NOT the same person. (For one thing, you drink gin and she prefers vodka.) I am surprised Patrick would think so as he seems to be a discerning sort. Anyway, being polymorphously perverse at least in cyberspace, I enjoy you both.

I just can't believe people are talking about me when I'm not in the room. Is this a cocktail party at D. Rich's or what? (Have you seen her hair lately?) Now, where did I leave my Grey Goose-on-the-rocks?
How on earth did I miss this one? I must be going blind working in Photoshop 24/7 or too teary-eyed for causing Jocelyn to rip out every last hair left on her head. No more Venice for her.
I guess I owe SharonNRayMc a thank you. I certainly don't mind being taken for Edina Monsoon, however, in the right pair of Manolos, I stand 6' tall. Kinda hard to mistake me for a thin, squatty Brit.
I miss Patrick and all his confusion.
Thin, dear, I'd love to see you in a pair of Speedos although I expected you to have better taste in swimwear. Speedos are sooooo 80's. At least you're not wearing a G-string, like so many of those steroid inflated muscle queens in the Pines. What ever happened to cute, pinch-able love handles?
Have I mentioned how much I adore Todd Oldham? I wonder what ever happened to him? ...oh yeah, Target. Boy, the fashion industry sure can be brutal. Anyway, Todd and I worked together once and there's a slim chance Thin and I have met. But that's all I can reveal for now.
For anyone who really cares about appropriate fitting clothes, ThinGorjus got this thread absolutely right. Nice work, John.

Now, I'm embarrassed. My apologies to ThinGorjus (aka John G) and to NYCFS. If it's alright with you, I'd like to stay and play nicely. I promise to learn everyone's names.
I'll stand by what I said about ThinGorjus and artistic thinking about dressing oneself. You are spot on!
I'll also stand by what I said about NYCFS's Italy report. I enjoyed it immensely and would love to see more. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34472584
Most humbly,
-Sharon
