Stay somewhere near the coast, not somewhere at least an hour's drive from it. The roads east can get very busy so 1 hours could easily turn into 2. At the very least consider Pickering

Thanks, alanRow. I've been thinking along the same lines. Do you think the Moors and the coast are worth taking time away from the Dales?
