tent sites in italy? internet sites

Hello,

My wife and I are going to land in Rome with our small two person tent and rent a car. Does anyone know good 'tent' campsites or internet sites that address tent camping? I've noticed many call 'camping' staying in small buildings. Thanks, bc

I'm not a camper, and have certainly no personal experience with doing so in Italy. But I've noticed that campsites there are generally referred to as "campings".

A search for "campings italy" on google.com turned up lots of websites, among them:

http://www.camping.it/
http://www.camping-italy.net/en/
http://www.trotty.com/result.asp?co=i&ac=cg
http://www.abctuscany.com/tourism/campings.htm

There are *many* more, which you can check out via the same Google search.

Specifically for TENT camping, you might try the phrase 'wild camping' when conducting an online search. That's what they call it, apparently, when you just want to stay in a tent on your own, without having some organization set up your campsite for you.

Grrrr...that link isn't working for some reason. OK, well.....here's how I go to that page.

Go here: http://www.5terre.com/FrameSet.php?L...e=HomePage.php

In the top section where it says QUICK SEARCH in orange, where it says WHAT, use the little pull down menu to get to where it says CAMPING. Click on that, then hit SEARCH, and the next window should have a list of campsites throughout Italy. Some of them sound like they offer cabins, but some sound like they allow tent camping, which might be what you're looking for.

Hope this helps, LOL
