Temporary Mobile Phone rental in UK

Will be in UK for about 10 days. Is there a rental service for CELL and DATA ... like a smart phone rental.

Or even a plain old cell phone without data will do....( i will buy a GPS )

I saw lebara ...is that any good?

any other suggestions?

I'm sure there are others that can answer your question more directly, however I will add that pay as you go phones are much more reasonable in the UK. We got one for my tween daughter for basic logistics. The entry level phone was only £4 and the rates are 10p per text and 20p per minute. Perhaps something to consider. We got ours at Carphone Warehouse. Not sure how that compares to fancier rentals though.

It is worth using the search function here, because this topic comes up quite a bit. Effectively it is down to what you wish to use the phone for. Rates vary, and a basic phone that costs £10 in any supermarket may work out expensive if you wish to e.g. phone the US every night.

Ditto for the el cheapo option available from The Carphone Warehouse and no doubt others.

An extract from my comment on another thread -

"I took the advice here (Flanner's I think) and bought a phone for 4.95 pounds (having my image to consider I passed over the 2.95 model) and ten pounds of call time from The Carphone Warehouse in London and it was good for at least 10 decent length calls to Australia and with the addition of an adaptor now serves as my new mobile phone...
