The National Gallery (London) used to have a great Italian restaurant called Carluccio's or something similar; unfortunately, they replaced it last year with a really lame restaurant serving godawful British food.

I like the Metropolitan for the variety of restaurants.

I haven't been, but the Tower at the National Museum of Scotland is very highly rated.

I did have tea at the Wallace Collection in London last month and it was great

The Poytya Restaurant in Sarka Farming Museum , Loimaa Finland had outstanding food. For a country few people visit and even fewer know about then I suppose this will not be of much use to posters here.
However the food is wonderful Finnish home cooking and worth a visit just to eat. The museum is interesting too!

THe restaurant at the Tate is supposed to be good, though I've not made it there yet.

WE found the cafe in the vatican museum surprisingly good, and reasonable, and the one in the Uffizi was great, though a bit pricey.

Also surprisingly, the cafes in the museums in Prague and Budapest were pretty good too.

Musee d'Orsay was very nice, and we had a wonderful lunch with a view at the Tate Modern in London, but I think it's hard to top the quality of dining at the Modern at NYC's MOMA, whether comparing to other museums or just plain restaurants.

V&A in London. It's kind of underneath the museum so no stunning view there, but I had a very good piece of salmon for lunch.

The Vatican Museum cafeteria - the best pizza we had in both our trips to Italy! I guess it pays to have friends in high places!

Another vote for the Orsay dining room.

The cafe in the Met in the American wing is pleasant. I'm not a fan of the new cafeteria (the big one downstairs); the ceilings are low and it feels claustrophobic.

I had a memorable lunch at the Tate Modern, but I'm not sure if it was the food or the incredibly handsome waiter that made it so.

Does the restaurant at the Musee d'Orsay take reservations? Sounds enticing...

We enjoyed lunch at the Tate Modern and Restaurant Georges in the Pompidou Center--the Georges had fantastic people watching.

dorkforcemom, we entered d'Orsay in the morning and went up to the restaurant where we made a reservation for 12:30 or so that day. That was no problem. I'm not sure if they take reservations further in advance. I do know that late lunchtime a lot of people were being turned away.

I usually try to avoid them, but I recently got hungry while at MOMA in NY and stopped for a bite at their cafe. The food was really tasty, nicely presented and wasn't that much more than I'd spend in a diner in New York.

Just for clarification, don't confuse that cafe at MOMA that sunny16 mentions with the Modern at MOMA. No one could be comparing diner prices to the Modern!

Also second (or third) Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery in London and Jacquemart in Paris
