Thanks for posting the photos.

Have you ever wondered why travel photos seldom look as good as the sight you remember seeing?

There are probably several reasons. First of all you most likely see a much wider field than you record with you camera and second, your eyes do an amazing job compensating for various issues such as haze and color that a camera cannot do.

There's not much you can do about the former other than use a wider camera/lens. However, for the latter a bit of post-processing of the photo images can do wonders.

If you post your email address I'll send you two of your images (granted they are not full-size - I selected the view of Florence form Piazale Michaelangelo and the view above Riomaggiore). I spent a total of about 30 seconds on both.

I'm [email protected].
Yes, I'd like to learn how to do something with my photos. I'm largely a technophobe but willing to try. Thx

Ted, there used to be a convent on Via Ugo Foscolo, not too far uphill from the Porta Romana. Below it was an open field. When I saw it last, the field was full of poppies. Are the convent and the open field still there?

I do want to try your walk to Bellosguardo, which I used to see from my window when I lived in Florence.

Well I certainly saw an open field (or 2) but I'm not sure about the convent. Everything in Florence looks to me like a convent and after a while I stop distinguishing one building from another. (Seriously)

I realize that makes me sound like a Philistine. But Florence is so rich in extraordinary structures that after a while you stop asking yourself "Whatever can THAT be?"

I think the field is key, so thanks, Ted!

tg- thanks bunches for the detailed report. We leave in 3 weeks and I've "discovered" a couple new places for our Florence list, thanks to your report!
