Taxi to Victoria?

We arrive at Gatwick at 7:30 AM on a Weds. morning and will have 2 mid sized wheely suitcases. How much is a taxi to Victoria station area vs. train (is it an underground train) and then walk? Also, we leave on Sat. morning on train to Paris-should we taxi or train to there-how much.Thank you.

The Gatwick Express takes you right into Victoria (real train) for about 10BP each; I don't remember what we paid for a cab/minivan, but it was about the same price as 4 train tickets (there were four of us, so I guess about 40BP?). You might ask your hotel if they have a pickup van, or some other arranged airport pickup that could save you some money.

The Eurostar leaves from Waterloo, which is on the southside of the river, and a good haul from almost everywhere. It's on an underground line, so it's either that or a taxi.

We just returned from a London/Paris trip last month. We took the Gatwick express to Victoria ($18) -- tickets were brought ahead of time through our TA and I think you can buy them online...it was a regular train, not underground and was very comfortable and easy to get to there at the airport. We also had wheely luggage with three of us so once we hit Victoria we took the tube to our hotel. Big Mistake -- next time I would pay for a cab from Victoria to our hotel. There were alot of them out front of Victoria and it would have been more convenient. On the day we took the Eurostar to Paris (also had purchased our tickets ahead of time) we decided to take a cab from the hotel to Waterloo. For three of us, it was 7 pounds and well worth the money instead of fighting the tube and transfers to get to Waterloo. Once in Paris, we took the metro to our hotel, again I think I would have taken a cab. The metro and the tube are great ways to get around but difficult to do with luggage. They were both great cities that I'm sure you will really enjoy!! Have a good trip.

Did you say 7 pounds for a taxi from hotel near Victoria Station to Waterloo train-wow, that sounds great!!! It seems like $70 for 2 from Gatwick to Vic. is much so I'll take train there and then taxi, but will definetly do taxi to train to Paris! Thanks.

Do take the Gatwick Express. It is so much faster. It gets to Victoria in 30 minutes, while a taxi takes about 75-90 minutes because of the traffic.

The Gatwick Express is the only way to go to Victoria Station! Fast, efficient, reasonable.

-Dave-
www.CrazyAboutTravel.com
