Taxi cost Blois to Chambord
Has anyone recently taken a taxi from Blois to Chambord and back? If so, what was the approximate cost? We will be doing the Loire without a car. The excursion bus from Blois apparently ends Sep 3 and we will be there after that. I can't find info for a regular bus.

I don't know the answer, but have you considered a local tour group from Blois? There're local tours from the Tours tourist information office, and I believe the same holds for Blois.
Personally I think that it's a good way to see a few castles if you don't have a car. That was how I saw Chenonceau two years ago.

The taxi might cost more than a rental car.
Either go on a day trip or rent a car. If your group is large enough, you could hire a guide with a van. It depends what is economic for you.
Chambord is just a huge empty chateau with an interesting roof. Blois is much more interesting due to the history.

Is the "excursion bus" the same as the local bus? I was there in the off season and we took a local bus to Chambord. They didn't run as often as they would in the summer but there were several departures a day. They also had a local bus to Chenonceau; and they had a route so you could visit both chateaux. Maybe that has changed. Have fun in Blois, be sure to tour the chateau there also, it was quite interesting.

The excursion bus does Chambord and Chiverney together which is fine except it won't be going when we're there. The local bus is what I'm interested in but can't find any info for it on the Blois TI website so cls2paris, do you remember any particulars on the local bus? Thanks

elizacat - I don't remember the particulars but I remember that we went to the TI when we arrived in Blois and got instructions on where to find the local bus and what the schedule was. We paid the bus driver for the trip. You mentioned Chiverny, that rings a bell so it must have been a route option for us also.
Maybe the website is not comprehensive on transportation options. I was there in early April and I think that would be more off-season than September. I think if you went to the TI when you arrive you should find some less expensive alternatives to a taxi. And if not, you already have a Plan B to take a cab. Have fun! I really enjoyed my stay in Blois!

I took that service that indeed stops running on Sep. 3. I'm not aware of a city bus, but if you call these numbers (allowing for the time diff of course) and speak slowly you should get an English speaking person to tell you wht's what:
Public transport, service information clientèle au
02.54.58.55.44
Office du Tourisme de Blois
