Taking a Taxi in Rome

Taxi will run LIT60,000-80,000 to most central city locations. You can certainly save a few dollars by taking the train and then a cab, bus or subway to your hotel. After a long transatlantic flight, though, we find a cab direct from the airport quite sensible.

Ed

I'm sure a taxi from the airport will cost at least $45. Unless there are 3 of you and if your luggage is manageable, I recommend you take the train that shuttles between the airport and Stazione Termini. I don't remember the price for sure but I think it was about $7. From Termini you can transfer to the Metro, hail a taxi or possibly even walk to your hotel.

I too need to get from FCO to my hotel in Rome next month. I plan to take the train. Why pay so much for a taxi, when you can pay a few dollars and have the train drop you off where you need to be. I understand that the trains leave every 20 minutes from the airport to the Termini Station in Rome.

We stayed near the Vatican and the cab to the airport was 85,000 lire.
BTW, The Hotel Springhouse called the taxi for us @5:30am and a 4-door black Mercedes w/ plush leather interior pulled up with the most handsome Italian driver. That was a very nice drive to the airport.

Shelly: Your hotel is at the corner of Via Torina & Viminale (across from the Opera house). Using my "Streetwise Rome" map's scale I'd say you are ~.9km/.6mi from stepping off the train to your hotel. Plus ~200m (with a luggage cart & moving walkways it's easier) from "Arrivals" to the Airport train station. You said "We" (2 people?) taking the train will cost 32,000L(~$15US) and a taxi ~$40, so it's up to you
is ~$25 worth it for airport to hotel taxi which is easier and less hassle. HTH Regards, Walter
