There are many places in Switzerland where you can take a lift into the Alps or up to the top of a peak, but the only place I know where you can go from one place to another via lifts is from Chamonix, France over the shoulder of Mont Blanc to Italy. Is this the trip you meant? Other trips "through" the Alps would involve trains, or some amount of hiking to connect lifts.

Not sure exactly what you are referring too, however the Golden Pass is a train taking you through most of the routes (I took the Geneva-Interlaken Panoramic Express...a journey through the Alps.) Only speaking of Interlaken, from Interlaken OST train station there are numerous quick treks to the towns in the area which connect you via cable car and ski lifts to smaller towns (Murren, Wengen, Stechlberg, Gimmlewald, etc.)

Hi caduke,
It seems to me that you're talking about either "ski touring" or walking the "Haute Route." With the former, you traverse the alps on skis over several days, using cable cars, lifts, & ski trails. On the latter, you hike hut to hut across the alps between France and Switzerland.
I did a quick google search, and here's one example of ski-touring:

I hope you find it!

caduke---you didn't say where you will be in Switzerland, or when, but if you are looking for fun things for your teens, keep an eye out for village festivals (Dorffests). We happened upon one in Grindelwald with a street fair and a zip line, set up from the 4th floor balcony of a hotel, over the street fair and landing on a large platform truck. Our 16-year-old loved it---he went zooming over eveeryone's heads while we all cheered. It would never be allowed in the U.S.---due to liability concerns---but it was perfectly safe and very memorable for him.
