If you're flying into Zurich and you're determined to put a toe into France, IMO, you should head straight from Zurich airport to someplace in Alsace like Strasbourg or Colmar. Spend the night there, then head back into Switzerland and down to Lucerne, the Jungrau region or Lugano in the Ticino (the Ticino is likely to have the most cooperative weather in late April/early May). Then from Lugano, catch a train to Rome (I did this three weeks ago, it's a pleasant trip, especially if you take the direct, no-stop train between Milan and Rome). IOW, one night Strasbourg or Colmar, two nights Switzerland, four nights Rome.
Also IMO, you're packing way too much into one trip, but people have done worse and still enjoyed themselves, so if this is what you're set on, best wishes for a great honeymoon!

Hello all! a follow up on our trip will be forthcoming soon, but a summary is as follows. Day 1: Arrived in Zurich to take train immediately to Lucerne. Sight see in Lucerne until about 4 then take the train to Grindelwald for the night. (note: supermarkets and everything else closes in Grindelwald very very early!) Relax for the night then Day 2: head to Interlaken for Hang gliding in the morning. Spend that day looking around Interlaken. Day 3:take the Golden Pass to Montreux, spent two hours on the lake of Montreux before heading to Stresa, Italy. Day 4:Head to Venice, arrive at 11 and sight see for the day. Day 5ff to Florence, arrive at 10 and tour the city. Day 6: last stop, Rome. See the sights and the city. Day 7: just before flight, tour the colloseum. Exhausting, yes. Did we see everything? no. Was it satisfying? Absolutely.
