Switzerland to Italy

We are spending a week in Murren in late June/early July and then taking the train to Cinque Terre. If we have a Swiss rail pass, how does that work on getting the ticket to Italy? Also, any suggestions about clothes for the two areas?

Hi misspatti,

I haven't done this myself so I don't have personal experience --

But your Swiss Pass will cover you from Muerren to the Swiss border, then you have to pay from the border to your Italian destination. Just take your Pass with you when you buy your ticket; the agent will know what to do.

Easy: your Swiss Pass covers the trip as far as Domodossola (I assume you will be travelling through the Simplon route, makes more sense from Mürren than Gotthard). You will need a ticket from Domodossola to La Spezia, or whatever town you want to go to. You can either buy a ticket online from Trenitalia.it, or from any station in Switzerland. The price is the same except for the exchange rate difference.
