Switzerland Recommendation

Will be staying in Luzern in early December and have an open day. Would like to have recommendations for trip to either Mt. Rigi or Mt. Pilatus and why you would go.

Thanks for your assistance.

It will probably be too early for skiing on the Rigi so I'd go to ..... Titlis in Engelberg.

..."why you would go..." Great views on a good day, and that's the key - no guarantee in early December - maybe it snowed way up high and the peaks will be white, if the sun comes out that makes for awesome views from those lesser peaks like Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis. If the sun doesn't come out, maybe you're such an intrepid hiker that you still want to do something - if there's no snow on the ground, one of the hikes on Pilatus might be workable.

But if the weather is lousy - quite possible - you can visit the transportation museum in Lucerne, or hop on a train to Zürich or to Winterthur and visit museums there, or hop on a train for Berne where the arcades that flank the streets in the historic center make strolling quite feasible even during a downpour, and there are a few worthwhile museums there, too.

The historic cog wheel railway to Rigi is more interesting than the new gondola to Pilatus.

Isn't Pilatus cogwheel rail closed in winter so the top can be reached only by telecabin - gondola from Kriens?

Schuler:

Already have Enggelberg and Titlis scheduled and no plan to ski. What say you now?

Thanks to all for your ideas!
