Nathan,
I agree with MJ. We have been to Engelberg and gone to the top of Titlas. You literally travel through the clouds while overlooking the mountain valleys. At the top there are ice caves cut into the glacier at 10,000 feet. Have fun.

1. Taxis are very expensive, I would guess about 35-40sfr. for that trip. I live about 7 miles from Hergiswil and taxi is about 70sfr for Luzern to where I live. The train (and a special late night bus) is frequent and fast. http://www.rail.ch/pv/index_e.htm
2. Go to Engelberg and take the local bus (1 sfr. schedule http://www.titlis.ch/pdf/EAB_Sommer_2003.pdfor walk 1.5 hrs. from town) to the Fürenalp cable car station and walk up the valley towards Surenenpass. Lots of green grass, amazing glacier/permanent snowfield viewing, and waterfalls. Try to get as far as the small summer farm settlement of Blackenalp. In fact this is the hike I did today-4 hrs roundtrip from the Fürnealp station. Be sure to stop at the Alpenrösli for the best rösti in Switzerland (less than 1 hr. from cable car station). This gives an idea of the walks in the area http://www.fuerenalp.ch/wandern.htm and
